I wonder if they should have traded some of their top speed for more downforce. There package invites it, but they haven't done it.

Anyway, Max says they tried something "different" with their warmup lap on the last laps that probably didn't work.

May be to exploit a DRS advantage. If they know tyre wear is okay with a lower DF setting, it could be the optimum for them.

With only 1 free practice session, I doubt they had a chance to evaluate alternatives.

Looking at the telemetry it's not obvious one way or the other what they should be doing setup wise. They have 10kph advantage on both DRS straights. Max has a higher minimum speed in some corners, Leclerc higher in others.

Lec simply faster today. RB needed perez's S1 and Max's S2 from his first q3 lap in a single lap to get pole, but that's a whole lot of if and buts.

Both of these 10 kmh's higher speeds are almost irrelevant in terms of laptime. Again we're observing honda's outright ERS advantage allowing RB to deploy for those 100m before turn 1 and then for those last 100m before T3. Maybe it comes in handy on sunday, but they were unable to pull a move on Lec last year, so I don't see how they can this time.

We don't know what RB could have done last year since the Ferrari retired. The first laps on high fuel with soft tires are very delicately driven. You take the easy overtake if you can get it, but you don't ruin the tires on high fuel chasing an overtake that can come with strategy, or at worst, pushing on lower fuel. This is how Perez did his race in Bahrain and how we've seen Max do his races where he doesn't start in front.

The cool asphalt temperatures, which dropped from 39 to 29 degrees during qualifying, helped. "Ferrari sets the tyres on fire faster than we do," Horner observes. The cooler it is, the more this property pays off. Verstappen interjected: "In doing so, we changed our warm-up strategy." Nevertheless, Leclerc took one and a half tenths off him in Sector 2, where ten of the 20 corners are located.

This hotter track temp for the sprint qualifying could help Red Bull and hurt Ferrari tomorrow even though the Sprint proceedings have less value compared to the GP.

If that's the case, then all Max has to do tomorrow is survive the first lap.

On this page you can see the interview with Russell after the sprint race at ViaPlay and what he thinks of the damage Max had to his car. Unfortunately I can't just post the video.
Maybe there is a geoblock, but what he sad is also written in the text.
