Hamilton knew fully what Verstappen intended to do, he kept his dumb appearance up knowning well he should keep his mouth shut about what Verstappen was doing. So when Verstappen let go of the accelerator, Hamilton didn't want to overtake, Verstappen pressed the brakes a bit harder to force Hamilton to overtake, which Hamilton didn't expect and it resulted in a minor collision. Verstappen got punished for that last brake action... It's ridiculous to say the least; both the FIA and Hamilton's hypocrisy.
Verstappen had to gave the place back he chose there for obvious reasons and Hamilton didn't want to take it. So in my opinion Hamilton lost the place to Verstappen at that moment. And the driver crashing in the rear of another car is always the one at fault.
That's closely match my thought. Neither one of them want to cross the DRS detection line first. Even if Hamilton didn't know Max' intention was to let him by but Max did brake and caused the collision. I wouldn't say there is hypocrisy or there is any conspiracy involved. I don't know if there is any rule that say when you are told to gave back the position, you couldn't be strategic. We have seen tons and tons of battle where people gave back the position and immediately back on the attack. I put this in the same way Bottas slowed down to built a gap for double stack pit stop at first safety car and also how LH hang back during the restart to make sure Max' tires cool off. All legal but tricky.

if you guys think lewis is all great and wonderful why did he resort to crashing Max in silverstone .the irony is lost in some of you is that we have these artifacial champiship because lewis stated with cheating when he took Max out.it should have been long over in qatar.were was lewis when vettel distroyed him for 4 straight years it took 2 secound merc to safe his behind
Verstappen has tried 10x worse that than move countless time and every time HAM backed-out. In that race also just before collision, HAM avoided, but then probably he though enough is enough and hence, your lot is harping till date about it
We need a miracle. We need only one racing lap.

Did Max get hit by a Merc ?

I didnt think so , so what the issue ? I guess Lewis deserves a penalty for this ?!!??!
There appears to be an attempt to build a narrative that Bottas did it deliberately. That it was an attempt to take Max out of the race. Bizarre tin foil hat stuff.
careful there with the hats, I got a reprimand here from a mod for offering one to a fellow board member here couple weeks ago, to replace his well worn one that is

All of this is a consequence of RedBull not having the pace to compete and forcing Max into desperation mode.

Yeah that's a very odd thing to think. Actually, on lap 1, there was an attempt for Perez to take out Max and Hamilton at the same time. He locked up so it must be true.

I don't think it is legal to give back the position "strategically", meaning while retaining some form of advantage you wouldn't otherwise have if you were actually behind. Hamilton was penalized for that in SPA against Kimi.

ahaha, poor Ham , he knew Max was trying something funky so he didn't overtook him, instead he got close behind him as much as he could, don't make me laugh 🥳
Thank you for so eloquently proving my point

I'd think that the strategy was to give the place while keeping in the drs window behind him, not for the attempt to retake the position back after the straight, like some here suggest, and that would be penalized, but to hang in there for attempt on the next lap

Max then went ahead and made a mockery of this by doing exactly the offending thing, and gave the place back again, probably because he knew that the 5sec penalty for running Hamilton off track (and going off himself) was already on the way, if I understand the reason for that penalty correctly and am not confusing it with something else

Marko is communicating through several sources that they want to prove that Verstappen didn’t brake that hard and Hamilton should get a penalty.

I so hope now that they will appeal and the punishment wil get harsher, 30 seconds and will put Verstappen’s behind Hamilton so he can’t just simply drive him off track.

I agree with you on that and the way he finally gave up the position but then immediately took it back from the inside line would fit what you said. As much as he slowed to allow Ham go up inside and probably try to use the outside line and DRS to challenge at the end of the DRS zone, would have not looked so bad and probably look good but I do think the frustration was building that Ham wasn't passing and tuck in behind him. To be fair, Ham is probably confused but at the same time know he doesn't want to go inside to pass and loses out at the end of the DRS and probably wonder what Max is up to. Its all fractions of second stuff. A lot of people talk about this like both drivers have had a life time to come up with a scheme. the miscommunication in my opinion is the key here. Probably should have told Merc, 'we are going to ask Max to give Ham the space back' then get on the radio to RBR and not the other way around?

Well - apart from all the histrionics and waffle on here about Driver X and Y - the part of the race without controversy was actually impressive. Both the drivers giving a masterclass in speed and just left the rest of the field behind. Imagine if that was what all this show is about? Cars racing, going fast - taking risks and putting it on the line.

(remember that? Cars going dead fast?)

The clashes and stewarding generally was pretty poor. The ability of these guys to make the rest of the field look ordinary was amazing. I think we'd all agree on that.

No-one seems to notice that anymore. You have to have your entrenched biases and cannot look up and see past the urge to respond to someone else's posting.

Roll on next week eh? it will either be amazing, or a massive shitfest. I, for one, have no dog in the fight and I am wanting to see the battle. To be fair, I think that it would be good for the sport to have another F1 champion and break the dominance of Lewis. However - Lewis and Max haev both been superb this year. So very fast that they could probably both start from the back in each race and would have been leading the results by this time of year.

I definitely agree here. Max and Lewis going all out with barely any management was amazing to watch. They are in their own league.
