It would be far more entertaining than the boring rubbish around Monaco every year, A lap round Indy would be pretty much flat out for all cars, so it would give Caterham a chance at winning for sure, If you have KERS and DRS it would make for a very close race! No one would want to lead down the back straight on the final lap! It would be immense!

Someone put it to Bernie!

Just out of interest, people are saying No because ? They dont like oval racing ?

As i stated above, atleast it wont be the boring follow the leader around the likes of Monaco.

It's still subjective. While you may prefer an oval race, some prefer other things. For me (honestly speaking) I prefer a race in Monaco. I like watching cars darting about in quick changes of direction, and seeing the varying driving styles and lines drivers take.

For my personal tastes, I'd rather watch a race with 0 overtakes and 0 stops at Monaco, than something with 10 overtakes per lap on an oval - because IMO the layout is boring.

The people who say NO think driving Indy is easy and they have the balls to do it.

Wow. Honestly? That's a rather shallow comment to make.

An oval is not on the calender for the same reason they don't do a world rally stage or a 1/4 mile drag race... The track is too different from the rest of the calender. The cars will therefore need to be completely different for that one event.

Not to mention the fact that the tyres would probably need to be increased in strength to run on the banking.

Instead of follow the leader it will be "let´s draft of each other for 499 laps then let´s start the race on the last lap"

I´d rather watch paint dry then watch an oval race.
The whole mentality behind the racing and how it should be is just wrong.

From the organizers saying "have at it boys" to the fans actually wanting to see crashes as they feel it´s part of the racing..
Just a retarded way of looking at racing.

At least Stewart seems to understand the stupidity behind it.

And the fact that oval racing is incredibly difficult and dangerous for the inexperienced. Imagine what the F1 crash-kids would manage on an oval for the first time? The cars would also need to have semi-enclosed wheels (like the current IRL cars) to be even moderately safe. I agree with Jody Scheckter - open-wheel oval cars were ludicrously dangerous.

Drafting is not going to be easy when all cars on the limiter or max rpm, we have seen is some races where DRS was not enough because of the gearing

Imola 500 would be nice as non championship race. (with DRS disabled, one for the purists, fuel stops inside the garage with minimum stopping time, and all four Pirellis have to be used once during the race)

Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

the Indy 500 was run by F1 http://www.formula1.com/results/season/1950/381/ I doubt a modern F1 car could run a full lap at speed. The engines wouldn't like running 100% RPM and Load for that amount of time. They would also have to use a different tire construction. I wouldn't mind seeing some ovals put back on the circuit. Maybe the old Monza oval.
