There is alot of knowledge on there with regards chassis building using a variety of tecniques that you can do in your back yard! http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk You might regret not putting a 1000c.c. in though. The people on this site mainly build replica Lotus 7's but there are some people building mid engined stuff with their own fibreglass bodies as well as the odd single seater. There is a photo archive that most members have uploaded their pics to and alot of people have alot of knowledge on that site. (And it's all for free if you ask nicely)
I have been (very roughly) sketching single seater ideas for a car to use in hillclimb events here in England but I'm considering getting into Formula Vee now instead. Like the idea of circuit racing more, but I'm skint until my 7 is finished. What have you got in mind, spaceframe?

im still researching which layout is going to best suited.... for ofcourse; money avaliable and tools and skills i currently have. right now im just planning everything out right now. and im still undecided on the idea of a engine but im think gsxr motor 600 perhaps but maybe an 2.5L v6 i dont know.... design hasnt even began its all an idea inside my head... but my true plan is to design my own car, homologate it so i can do the 24 hour race at le mans. thats the goal im aiming for which is why im working and going to school at running a business all at the same time to build up funds for the project and to find some people that wouldnt mind lending a hand or some advice but the small version of an F1 car is just for me......as a toy haha

I've been researching car building for a few years now so if there's something you want to ask (excluding composites  ) then p.m. Reading wise you need to own a book called High Speed Low Cost by Allan Staniforth. His design principles and ideas are some of the best tried and tested methods in print. He's also a design judge for F.S.A.E. I believe. Good luck mate.

If you were a psych or econ major, that probably wouldn't have happened.
