Saintz scored 9th this year, best behind Force India, which have a good package of chassis, pu and drivers. Their 7th place in the WCC is caused by the fact that Saint scored almost all those points and the other 3 drivers scored almost nothing. I think the chassis is on the same level as Force india and Renault and with the funds of Honda coming in, they can develop another great STR. Only their new line up, hasn’t showed anything yet. They still need to show what they are capable of.
I agree...we need a better driver line up ASAP....or just wait until 2019? [-o<
I think we haven't seen what either driver is capable of, both rookies, saddled with engine penalties with derelict power unit components. Depends, Toro Rosso has some very good people, if they show they can make a good chassis, it may be cheaper to buy Toro Rosso than Red Bull. True Red Bull has some world class facilities for chassis development, however truth be told Toro Rosso isn't far behind due to the fact they get their facilities from Red Bull. Would Red Bull demand a higher premium than McLaren? Would Honda have more or less leverage if they went into works partnership with Red Bull?

As it is, Toro Rosso might as well be Honda F1, as Honda has absolutely all the leverage in this particular marriage. The car will be built around the power unit, if Toro Rosso needs some funds to redesign a suspension, or a new wing, or diffuser, or bargeboard, I'm sure they can work something out. Afterall what's a $40,000 FW, when Honda uses inconel exhaust manifolds that have to be replaced every 2 races which cost just as much?

As far as drivers are concerned, Japanese engine, Italian Chassis, might as well get a German driver, axis of evil style  Wehrlein would be my choice.
The pure evil would be germany engine, Italian chasis, and japanese rider that commit kamikaze  Anyway, the Honda move is the only good Way for STR to grow, or both of them. Surely STR cant stand with 3rd tier in term of renault service. I can imagine RBR renault engine will be shitty next year as Renault factory prefer MCL to get the prime service, as Renault and MCL May not beat RB fair n square

This is a test for honda to provide a good enough engine for redbull for 2019. Once 2021 comes around if they have done a great job things will stay as they are but if honda does a bad job red bull will find someone else (Aston Martin cosworth)

If that happens and honda don't give up on F1 they will buy the team from red bull and be a full works

So guys, I'm going to close this topic too. We can't keep 2 team topics open about the same team, that speaks for itself. Even though HondaReplica made this topic before Manoah2u, I prefer to keep consistency and the more detailed info on the first post of Manoah. Naturally this is no criticism towards the topic creator.

So please feel free to continue your thoughts here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26882
