I'm pretty impressed with Audi so far. The engine is pretty solid and the car is innovative. The overall package is more competitive than I expected and they'll be comfortably in the midfield. If they can do this in their first year off the very meh platform the old Sauber team provided then it's very positive on them being contenders at some point this rule cycle. Wheatley and Binotto have proven themselves the right people to lead this.
I agree 100%. Audi may have been the most impressive of the “new” teams and I would not be surprised if they are close to the Racing Bulls and Williams at the first few races. I expect them to eventually get to the mid pack by the end of this season. They have a big turbo for sure and the top speeds they were showing might assist them at Monza to get a surprise Q3 slot. They are certainly ahead of Aston Martin and Cadillac, and even potentially Williams.
Can they catch Racing Bulls and Haas over the season remains to be seen. I think Alpine are the best of the mid pack, and are hiding their true pace like all of the Mercedes teams until Melbourne.
Perhaps if the Audi drivetrain is solid Lawrence Stroll should get on the phone now to inquire about 2027, as the hope that Honda will turn that mess around quickly is probably slim. Love to see Audi in the points by mid season which I think is a definite possibility with the team and drivers. If it rains don’t discount Hulkenberg to grab a point as he is always handy in the wet.
