I think this weekend RB ran a very stiff setup, that could play a role together with riding the kerb on Variante Alta, which is quite unique in the calendar.

Wait up. It is indeed a knee-jerk reaction to Perez and I'm guikty of it too. Check the results: Perez has finished on the podium in most of his races. He had two very poor results in Australia and Imola. But it made him look bad because Charles is also getting on the podium but is more consistent. So yeah Perez's results are decent enough to keep his seat.
Look at beginning of 2022 and 2023. Strings of podiums and good results. Then he goes to Europe race 6 or so and begins the nightmare performances just as in Imola.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑20 May 2024, 12:51Wait up. That's what the best car is usually capable of - uses a suboptimal aero package to get the balance right, suffers with tyre temp a bit, still wins from pole.
Seems ever more likely that he will end up at Ferrari.chrisc90 wrote: ↑01 May 2024, 11:25The way I have interpreted that is he has stepped down from F1 duties as of now - and will focus on the RB17 for a year when it’s expected to be complete.
That probably satisfies his gardening leave clauses on the contract, meaning he’s free to start work from ~1st quarter of 2025. May 1st onwards.
If for anyone else, that’s 5 months development into 2026 car so likely not be able to have a massive effect if he moves to another team
Vanja, please. You have made your feelings clear. May be you have been rubbed wrong by some hardcore Max or RB fans. But you know more than anyone else that, you need a highly skilled driver to take a suboptimal aero package on a bad day, even on the best car on the grid, to pole and win with a car that doesn't have a great balance for tyres. Max had brake issues last year in US, yet won by the skin of his teeth when Lewis charged from behind, just like in Imola. Credit where it's due.
I am convinced he will, all signals point to it. And imho a great way to finish your career (assuming he will also want to retire at some point).mzso wrote: ↑20 May 2024, 14:25Seems ever more likely that he will end up at Ferrari.chrisc90 wrote: ↑01 May 2024, 11:25The way I have interpreted that is he has stepped down from F1 duties as of now - and will focus on the RB17 for a year when it’s expected to be complete.

Yeah, they were literally flying, and not in a good way. Maybe that is the real reason it is called variante Alta.Sergej wrote: ↑20 May 2024, 10:17I think this weekend RB ran a very stiff setup, that could play a role together with riding the kerb on Variante Alta, which is quite unique in the calendar.
perez from now on will not bit the two mclaren .he is usually 0.3 to 0.6 tenth slower than Max so you can fill a lot of cars in that gap including ferrari .the big updates maclaren and ferrari brought has changed the game .an onform yuki outqualified perez in a much slower car last year in odd races. what do you think he is going to do with much improved car merc included. Ones we get to fast-track were power and aero efficient is required then perez would breeze through cars but he will still have to start from wayback.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑20 May 2024, 12:51Wait up. Perez had out qualified Max's ex team mates while driving mid field racing point/force india tooBill wrote: ↑20 May 2024, 16:38perez from now on will not bit the two mclaren .he is usually 0.3 to 0.6 tenth slower than Max so you can fill a lot of cars in that gap including ferrari .the big updates maclaren and ferrari brought has changed the game .an onform yuki outqualified perez in a much slower car last year in odd races. what do you think he is going to do with much improved car merc included. suffers with tyre temp 'a bit' ?
.
I have huge respect for RBR since 2008 and Vettel's win in what was basically 2007-spec RBR car. I like the visual identity of the brand (RED Bull) and the team and am a huge admirer of late DM and the way he built the RB empire. As an aerodynamicist, I love their methodical devotion and approach to car design and perfecting the interaction between aero and suspension. As an F1 fan, RB is my second-favourite of all the top teams in the last 20+ years, regardless of many times they bested Ferrari. Am I forbidden from acknowledging their engineering excellence manifested through RB20 as the car of this season?Dunlay wrote: ↑20 May 2024, 15:08Vanja, please. You have made your feelings clear. Hatred? Strong words get tossed around here like they mean nothing...
Because he started his 2nd stint with 62s gap and could only manage to shave down 7s. And of course he got the 62s gap in the first place because of silly mistake in Q2, getting hopelessly stuck in traffic for 15 laps, making another 6-7s amateur mistake in 1st stint and then losing 1-2s a lap every time a car in front pitted for fresher tyres and overtook him afterwards.
