Haas VF-22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Note the horns by the cockpit right before air flows into the bath tubs.

Cool copy. Did the likes of Haas get to understand what ferrari were doing?

Or were they told what to do? 8)

I’m pretty sure they have had the cockpit vanes there since day 1.

Conceptually they have always been the closest to Ferrari. As to their degree of understanding? That’s anyone’s guess

Imagine how many wins HAAS would have had at the start of the season if they understood their car then as they know it now..🤔

Yep and yep.

This is the pre-upgrade car vs. the F1-75

What they've done now is just an evolution of their initial design which was very close to the Ferrari anyways.

As pointed out above the bathtub might not be as deep as on the Ferrari at the front of the sidepod (see angle of cooling slots) but could maybe have a similar depth/shape towards the rear (similar shadow on the left for example)

Image

The Ferrari sidepod also starts dropping right away, there's hardly any horizontal surface, on the Haas it only really starts dropping near the rear end of the halo, where the black area starts.

There's other differences (like the kind of overhang on the Haas)
Image

I don't think anyone has posted this comparison by Fabrega yet

The main shape of the sidepod is still similar to the old one, good to see where they added or removed some body volume,

Haas should probably invest in some stronger endplates for next year. I believe this was the 3rd time this season they have had problems with it

Nice view of the Ferrari PU packaging

Apparently, there is a regulation already surrounding an "endplate tether" which Haas built the endplate to and that is why the Haas endplates don't break away and cause all of the meatball misery this season.

The amount of fairing in this assembly points to compromises in suspension geometry to achieve an aero gain. I wonder if this helps point to what was seen as a low speed traction advantage for Ferrari early in the season (suspension is shared with Haas), but at the expense of tyre longevity.
