Noisy and mostly likely compromised gear changes, 9kph down on a very long straight. Yet only 1.4 sec off the pace. Alonso is brilliant but the car is improving too.

The car is definitely louder that's for sure, I need more footage to be sure on other things though.

Could they be running the PU rich? The team getting position possible for the start as the first corner is Alonso's is one of his favourite.

2.7 sec off Hamilton's Q1 pole is much better than the predicted 'last and second last' placings. I just hope that the spec 2 PU has even more potential. The current PU is still not using TJI right?

My prediction is that McHonda will release 0.500s in one lap power and 1,500s in a race for China GP ... 2 weeks
1,5s gain in the whole race I guess

Like your optimism :wtf: :wtf:
I confess that Friday was not so optimistic, but have not improved 0.500s to a lap, have improved 0.600s, I am very happy and McHonda deserves a recognition of their effort. I hope that tomorrow they can improve the pace compared to the head in 1.5s each lap (only with the fuel savings they lost more than 1s). It may not be a day to celebrate a 13th, but I'm very happy with McHonda's reaction in 2 weeks

Seems like McLaren will be able to 3D print parts trackside from Bahrain onwards. Do any of the other teams do this? A brilliant way to continue development right up until the last second.

I don't know how can one interprets this, but.
Alonso improved his time from Q1 by 0.130s.
Kevin Magnussen improved his time by 0.8s.
Sergio Perez by 0.7s
Kvyat by 0.4s
Sainz by 0.4s too.
Hulkenberg by 0.8s!!

Drivers above were behind Fernando or a little less in front.
As far as I can see, McLaren was running full -or almost- full power both Q1 and Q2.
So to say gap is 1.5s because of Q1 is misleading, IMHO.

I agree, Q2 times give a better indication of where they are relative to the midfield. I must say, it's not as bad as I first feared. On a power hungry track, and only within 4 tenths from Force India, Toro Rosso and Haas. I know Alonso outperformed the car, but the chassis is giving him the ability and confidence to do so, which bolds well for the rest of the season. I still believe Honda can haul them back up to the front of the midfield pack throughout the season.

Well, raw pace is satisfying compared to what we expected on a circuit like this.As you mentioned, Xero, being 4 tenths shy of the midpack is a step forward.BUT, one of the biggest issues of the team is the fuel consumption. It doesn't matter how fast you are if you can't finish the race without ridiculously high fuel saving. So this is going to be a drawback heading to race.

i watched quali and seriously what alonso did does show , how capable driver he is and chassis is quite good. even sauber with ferry 2016 engine are 5-7kmph faster than them.i guess if they improve engine massively then mclaren might gain 1-1.5 seconds that will be good enough to fight red bull and williams. car was quite good in corners today.
