How is Mclaren faring on race pace after the upgrade cause its one to get a pole and another to keep it with race pace.
Race pace looked pretty bad...well behind Merc and also behind Ferrari and Max. but also looked like we didn't do any truly representative running
I really think people read too much into times. Norris was slower than Piastri in "race pace" while in reality Norris looked to be faster of the two through the rest of the weekend. I doubt we know anything.

Looking at recent races, I wouldn't be surprised if Kimi does another abysmal start, ends up P5 after first lap and Norris cruises to a sprint win (with Mercedes catching up).

Our season starts now?
TBC by Sunday midnight
Though honestly probably not until Sunday night after the Canadian GP once Mercedes brings their upgrade and McLaren the second half of theirs
True, I’m tempering my expectations till after Canada.
However the fact Russell is surprised about the performance gain of the McLaren and Ferrari might suggest Mercedes don’t have loads of performance coming in Canada, especially when we consider that McLaren will have the second part of their ‘New’ MCL40 in Canada too.

Yup, it’s the hardest it’s ever been for us mortals to get a read on race pace this season, chuck in the fact it was a sprint practise too- we don’t stand a chance of understanding it other than the standard line: ‘team A won the last race so they will have the best race pace here’

First representative test to see where the team stands on race pace with the new upgrades. Let's go get our first victory.

I also read the same thing into those comments. Interesting...

I am very surprised Mercedes is in this position. They were miles ahead and it's crazy that they did not have more in hand. How big exactly were McLaren's and Ferrari's updates to leapfrog them like this? I suspect the Canada package for them will not be huge too, because they already had some changes in the second week of pre season test. Not small ones either. We had a big offset in terms of where each top team was in their development trajectory, but now they are converging a bit.

Puzzling to see the gap completely thwarted. Even Max was faster than them by the end of the stint there.

McLaren said this is their plan, many here were sceptical yet here we are. The team behind the car deserves our full trust.

Great sprint, really happy that it is a clean trouble free 1-2. Now I want to win the race!

Very happy Mercedes is on the back foot after their engine data shenanigans.

Rob Marshall was almost chuckling during an interview with F1 before preseason. They clearly had a plan. Well done to the entire team.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
