Mclaren MCL40

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

By the way, do you think they can get any meaningful beam-wing like interaction from that bottom rear wing element? It’s certainly angled aggresively, but then again I am sure most teams would be trying to do something similar with whatever the allowance is in the regulation.
It is plausible.

I dont understand why there is so much talking about a radical Aston Martin. This car is one of the tightest.

Hopefully the Aston gets way more attention, the less people looking at the McLaren the better :D

They had an innovative cooling solution last season and it looks like they have taken it a step further this season.

Just by eye balling it, does it look like they have smaller openings than last season even though the cooling demand is higher for this season?

Also Rob said the front suspension is innovative again this season- would be nice to see this close up.

Some people treat anything Adrian Newey develops as the "innovation of the century," even when the same thing is present in the cars of other teams, or when a team presents something even more radical than Newey's design.

Why would the cooling demand be higher this season? Fuel flow has been reduced by 30%, as such there should be less heat to dissipate, not more.

Obviously there is some loss of thermal efficiency with the removal of the MGU-H, but the reduction in fuel flow should more than cancel that out.

I guess the new MGU-K will also need a bit more cooling than the old one, but electrical deployment is extremely efficient, so the cooling demands for the MGU-K should be relatively low.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

The irony is that we will never know who's trully the best aerodynamicist considering we lost Colin Chapman so early. Would Andrian Newey still be considered better if Colin lived?

Not at all. I think I heard from an ‘expert’ on the TV so it’s probably not true hence why I put a question mark at the end of my sentence
