Aston Martin AMR22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I wonder if they'll make a "hot" panel and a "cold" panel for this area. Fewer gills in the "cold" panel.
Yeah, if the engine ends up running too hot with the 'cold panel' in that uk February weather, then their design has miscalculated a fair bit..

can someone break down other reasons why they are running with less gills other than testing how many they need?
To regulate temperature. Same reason you tape up brake ducts.

Pretty typical on all racing cars on exceptionally cool days, and especially if they aren’t going 10/10ths. You figure most of racing season is done in summer months, asphalt temps being north of 40* C, and in certain classes, you are drafting a lot (reduced airflow), so the brakes / radiator ducts are engineered for that.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice the mock secondary side pod inlet is partially open on the actual car they ran today?

Check aero dynamics 2nd and 3rd pic from page 19 at the bottom of the page. You can see a diagonal line similar to the one on the square opening. The edges look different too.

The diagonal line is the inner edge of the square inlet, as seen from the top three quarter view. What was closed remains closed.

I foresee a lot of front wing damage after minor contact happening this season.
Dont they have to made from an fia mandated carbon make up? To do the exact opposite, less damage and less shard all over everywhere when they do break

It's just you.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.
