I dont see why someone was guessing a 65 sec. lap based in the 1991 Nigel Mansell´s pole of 1:16.
The Peraltada is the main issue with the layout. If they had the sort of runoff that Monza has at the Parabolica it probably wouldn't be a big deal, but the lack of runoff is what's going to wind up causing some garbage chicane to be placed to slow the entry speed down.

With the way F1 cars can accelerate, I doubt a chicane will be enough for the FIA. I think we'll probably see them going through the baseball field again.

Probably, but it is a shame, I want to see an F1 car on the full Peraltada. Could it make it flat out?

Depends on how long the straight is before it.

Sector 2 looks very nice, an F1 car in the right element.

2014 cars would retain their usual ('sea level') power at the 2285 m altitude of this circuit (via some interesting work)
an ideal Mexico City engine might in principle have even have more power

the N/A cars eg of 1991 presumably lost about 12% of their usual power because of MCs much lower atmospheric pressure
similarly the CART/Indy turbo cars ?
though the Honda that won the 1965 GP was allegedly adapted for the altitude to minimise power loss

(the Air Density thread in Aero, Chassis and Tyres a few months ago showed that the official power correction formulae for engine tests are intended for near sea level, and give poor predictions eg for Mexico City altitude, or even Interlagos altitude)

This is the circuit version that they should use, it does not go thru the stadium but instead uses the stadium entrance to create a "chicken" just before the peraltalda. Champ car 2006, safe and fast and challenging

also, champ car had a rule that if you missed the "chicken" in any way you must come o a full and complete stop before you could resume the race

that lay out would make sense. i don't think they would need the stop rule though, i'd imagine they would just use the sleeping police man or something like monza where the driver would have to drive around it or something

The "sleeping policeman" are a foolish implement, they damage the cars and are unsafe for the drivers getting the cars fully off the ground, they should be immediately be removed from all racetracks, the Styrofoam blocks are not as bad but if they are taken out on the first lap then they dont do anything slow down drivers afterward.

The champ car rule was the best, miss the chicane then you must make a complete stop before rejoining the track.
