Re: New qualifying format...

Bernie always proffers a drastic proposal only to appear to back track to a more reasonable "compromise", which is what he really wanted anyway.

Saying "I want reverse grids and time penalties" forced the teams to vote in the lesser elimination qualifying to forestall his attempt at totally ruining qualifying. I expect Bernie is happy with the elimination style and just pretended to want the more severe alterations.

Gamesmanship that is all it is, the teams should have called his bluff and said no to any changes this year!

I really hope they don't fluke a good session - let's say it rained in Q1 and a bit of 2 and the teams had plenty of dry tyres for Q3 - after which they'll all pat themselves on the back for not 'knee-jerking', missing the whole point as usual. The whole concept is flawed, obvious to anyone with half a brain from the very beginning, and the whole exercise entirely unwarranted.

Just an image response. Anything else I'd write would probably get me banned for extreme profanity.

"This was an FIA idea in the first place, so I've said to them we'll support whatever they think is the right thing to do." (Bernie Ecclestone)

Nice attempt at a side step Bernie but your not kidding anyone.

Well, we probably would give you a warning and a slap on the wrist for profanity, but we could hardly ban someone for basically making sense.

Up to you if you deem profanity worth a warning and a slap on the wrist. As a moderator I will not encourage it, though we life in a free world to make choices and accept their consequences :P :P.

It does shed a brighter light on that message from the GPDA. I'm sure they are kicking themselves now for not going even more agressive with it. Words like "could jeopardise its future success", “obsolete and ill-structured and prevents progress being made” and "This reflects negatively on our sport" just look like a big understatement now. I'd much rather describe it as"will jeopardise it's outright future", "completely disfunctional and none-structured and makes any progress undone" and "makes us the laughing stock of the world".

The only way we're gonna see change is if when all the drivers show up on Friday for practice, they find that Niki has dusted off his bus from 1982 and they go sight seeing for the day. That's the only way. Right now they say something the fans will agree with them on, then go and sit in the car to do the thing they said they hated.

If you hit F1 right where it hurts, the drivers, the ripple effect for the weekend would be catastrophic for F1. No drivers or even reserve drivers means no cars on track which also means angry fans in the seats. Hell, they probably would join the drivers. What are the FIA going to do? They can't force them in the car. It will send a huge message to whoever is making these decisions that they need to be rid of. That should be one of their terms to get back in the cars. Because the way those in F1's hierarchy have acted this week is appealing, to say the least.

Well there are contracts between the teams and FOM and surely they need to do some laps to get their share of the TV money and other revenues.

Well yeah, it's not going to happen, but just hope that there's not some freak circumstance that prevents people realising that this is not worth persisting with.

Which makes drivers going on strike more powerful than ever. Teams suffer, fans suffer, the sport suffer until there is a compromise.

Well, I guess that's it then. F1 has --- around too much, I don't think I'm going to watch it any more :(.

We're talking hardcore swearing here. Because honestly, this pissed me off enough to make me rage for a good few hours. High blood pressure and everything.

F1 is slowly being destroyed into oblivion and there's nothing I can do about it.
