Not sure what you’re seeing, but there’s a reasonable possibility they could end up 3 & 4 on the grid once penalties are applied & with PER at sea. I don’t think the choice of wing has to do with running in traffic, rather performance.

The other cars are moving ahead so the relative pacr is still almost a second off.
I suspect the car will still have good deg and race pace compared to the othere.
Itd suprising how little the car is changing compared to the other teams. Makes you wonder what the upgrade will be.

Mercedes have brought an upgrade, haven’t they? And beforehand they had said that the major part of it was going to be under the skin.

That wasn’t true last race for redbull (they had an enormous rear wing) and this race they went for less DF. I don’t think that “old” adage still is true this season with the ground effect. And Ofcourse wing settings arent the only factor for tire life/heating them up.

On the floor, there is a reduced curvature on the edge ahead of the rear tyre ... unfortunately the drivers didn`t see much improvement on it :

I can recall news of the upgrades not being visible - so being under the car. Yet you mention the nose.

And that was entirely down to wings?
Or do you think simply that they'd put a big wing on to try to help with setup and tyre wear issues? Which is far more likely.

Lewis said in the post-quali interview that the upgrades they brought were actually really small, only worth a tenth or so.

So much for expecting a big upgrade that you can't see!

Neither wing is new. The one on the right is the Miami wing with the modified endplates (making them sharper) and a gurney flap and the left picture is the one they started the season with
