Why this car is so inconsistant? some races we are almost on pole or literally out of Q1

not that it's the only reason for Aston, but a sprint quali is ideal for a car which struggles with ride height.

Usually they start aggressive and strong on Friday, and then often lose pace when they raise the car for qualifying. On a sprint weekend, this is not necessary.

Also, Alonso is known for finding the limits very quickly and not improving much between sessions. An untested tyre for everybody plays in the benefit of the quicker to adapt.

That’s why I’m looking forward to next year especially because with a better car Alonso will be a force.

well, just look at the times, and you see he didn't. Losing significant time in general (Q3 lap time was much slower than Q2) may very well be to the car and conditions, of course, but losing that much time to Stroll as well simply means that he didn't maximize his potential. First row was up for grabs yesterday.

You guys just love to bring the age related nonsense back into things. It’s always Alonso but when other drivers do the same it’s the car. Give it a rest

AM may have left something on the table by limiting their drivers to only one run and nobody improved on softs in the first run except Norris by a smidge. The tyres were just not better. It’s funny because Alonso still beat Max who had run the soft tyres in FP1. Yes Alonso beat Max in a Aston Martin but the way this guy above me is talking it’s like he expected Alonso to be on pole and beat much faster cars.

Look at this graphic.. Alonso only had one lap and look how close he got to pole. All the cars ahead had two laps and they only improved on the second attempt. Trying to somehow turn this into a bad result just exposes yourself.

I never said it was a bad result. It was a good effort from everyone.

But when Alonso maximises his effort, Stroll never comes this close. Which means he yesterday didn't.

They're probably saving the plank in Q runs for the sprint race itself, that car was very, very low and filing significant amount of material off there

Looks absolutely optimum for sprint eventuality, perhaps it will need something of a lift for race Q and full distance.

yeah, I think so too. This is what I meant earlier on, saying that they benefit from this format.

Same as Mercedes, for example. It's likely no coincicende that Antonelli's by far best results come from sprint qualifyings.

Yep, they can just start with a new plank going into race Q, so this one expendable against possible result.
