Alonso held on to p6! Stroll out of the points! What a --- strat from AM but great result from Alonso!

Car was awful on the softs. I wonder if they will go M-H for the race if it is dry tomorrow?

I’d definitely suggest something like that depending on what was causing them to only ask Alonso to lift and coast. They weren’t telling Stroll to lift and coast but Stroll fell further faster. Karun was surprised that Alonso was the only driver being told to that in a sprint. Ridiculous

Alonso is experienced enough to know when to use lift and coast without being passed. This car still has the 2024 car's DNA when it comes to tyre wear. Stroll's tyres were cooked with about 5 laps to go without lifting and coasting on the softs.

I do not blame Aston Martin for going with softs on the restart because they were never told if it was going to be a rolling or standing start. Mediums on the wetter line killed Aston Martin on the original start.

Whatever the reason is Alonso was the only driver being told to do that. Alonso knows how to look after his tyres so lift and coast isn’t something to do with tyre life since Lance would also be told do that! If they were so worried about tyre life they wouldn’t have touched the softs. Something isn’t adding up here. It’s a sprint not a whole race.

Maybe Stroll did not want to lift and coast? I cannot explain why he did not do it either. Stroll's pace fell off a cliff at the end so lifting and coasting did save time overall and was the correct strategy with the softs. More than likely, they will not be using that tyre for the race.

Stroll wasn’t even asked. It’s not about the tyre because Alonso was doing it for the whole sprint (that was even shortened!). You don’t do lift and coast for a whole race, only for a fraction of it but again this is why the team needs to say something.
