Probably running lower on Friday, so the car actually worked...
With 3 races left and being almost last in the standing and nothing to lose, better run lower and risk disqualification then suffer.
apparently Alonso is suspicious of other teams doing exactly that, as only the top 5 + two random cars are checked for plank wear

Alonso's likely suspicion is that some of the center-ranking teams are playing at ground height, at the cost of risking disqualification for excessive consumption of the skate.

For these teams, in fact, there is a good chance of not running into the controls by the FIA. By regulation, in fact, the skate is checked after the race in the first 5 of the standings plus two random cars among the other classified. In Interlagos, for example, the single-seaters of Lando Norris, Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen, George Russell, Oscar Piastri plus those of Nico Hulkenberg and Pierre Gasly were verified.

Alonso's veiled allusion is on the possibility that some of the direct rivals in the race for sixth place among the Constructors took a risk that Aston Martin never wanted to consider

I think some of the teams also have got ways to not wear the skid blocks as much while still running low.

I think that is true, just as it is true for AMR25 at certain tracks.

1 tripple header left to the season. Nothing you could do about it even if you knew how. At yhos point nobody cares.

Have I mentioned that I dislike these end of reg seasons. Actually I don't understand why we went with these regs if they were just gonna last 4 years?

Anyways, hopefully we have a decent car and PU next year.

It’s sad to see Alonso regress to driving pretty much the same car (relative pace wise) he had when he temporarily left the sport after 2018.

2023 was great. As a long term Alonso fan, it’s probably my favourite season of the post 2022 era even though there was practically no contention for the titles. In the end, it turned out to be a case of “too good to be true”. Still impressive they somehow “fluked” themselves into the 2nd best car for the first half of 2023, when clearly, with the benefit of hindisght, we know the team was not ready for that sort of level back then.

I am hopeful they can do good next year though. Similar to McLaren a couple of years back, AM has had a lot of investments that are now fully online. I am one of those people who doesn’t believe one man can make a huge difference in modern F1, but it’s tough to discredit Newey. He is an amazing asset to have, and Honda is not what they were 10 years ago. You can rely on them to develop a competitive engine.

I just hope we get to see Alonso get that 33rd win before he retires. Beyond that, it would just be wishful thinking.

Can’t believe it’s been 12 years since his last win in F1 to be honest. I still remember the disappointment of 2013 once Pirelii reverted tires and Vettel whitewashed the competition

Same here fan since the first days, 2023 was really a joy (except the Monaco possible win )

And overall he showed very good thing with Aston.
Now, just having one or more wins next year or the year after would already be a very good end of story.

Agree with the above- as the years rolled on I’ve just come to realise he’s a phenomenal, phenomenal competitor and racer and he deserves to be back on the top step of the podium at the very least.

I hate how the sport shakes out with politics - it’s almost absurd we have never had him to head to head with Hamilton in a title fight since 2007 (granted Ham was on the fringes of the 2010/2012 group of fast cars).

But that’s how it is- ability shouldn’t always correlate with titles and wins in this sport as you need the platform to do it.

Here’s hoping he’s in the mix next year - people can’t say he hasn’t done his hard yards.

bet me? why is it that every driver on the grid was salivating on getting newey before he announced coming to aston? and everybody that isnt on this forum are expecting aston to be one of the big players very soon? its fine to downplay things, but when aston show up with one of the fastest cars next season i hope all this depressing doom and gloom that this site has become for the last 2 years just goes away.

I believe he can make that difference. Often quoted is HIS technical ability, which I don’t doubt.

But far more than this is his management of "minds" that's so very productive. In that I mean the ability to create the thinking in others (their own specialist subject) in bringing confidence, searching questions, and explorative thinking.

Technical abilities in himself, but letting others see their own capabilities makes a very good "manager" of which there are genuinely few at that level.

Journalist Leo Turrini has claimed Aston Martin have “repeatedly contacted” Leclerc’s manager, Nicolas Todt, over possible 2027 move.

Must be to wish him earlier a merry christmas.

How are going to get information from first test in January as it's behind closed doors even without print media and social media feeds.
