Didn't watch FP1 & FP2 , so have no idea which car(s) 'looked stable/on rails' and which ones were 'at the teetering edge'. Requesting someone who actually watched the sessions to kindly shed some 'qualitative info' about this....

Can't glean anything just by looking at data alone, as fuel loads, engine modes etc come into play.
However, from the fastest laps of the top players from FP2, saw something strange :

Not sure whether I should read something into this (hiding pace by delaying/not-doing upshifts w.r.t others)

I’m in the same boat as you right now regarding not watching it yet but the Mclaren laps aren’t ‘hot’ laps as they both screwed their quali sim laps up in the wall

"Despite not being towards the front, Verstappen felt strong on Friday and found a good balance for the RB21, allowing him to focus on outright speed in third practice on Saturday.

Finding more one lap pace is an overnight task for Red Bull, as Verstappen outlined that it is where the team are currently struggling in what he expects to be a tight battle come qualifying.

"It didn't go wrong," said Verstappen. "The car feels good, which is positive. We've found a stable balance on this rather specific track. That's what you need.

"Everything has to come together to drive a good lap. We're still a bit short on one flying lap; there's still more to be gained from the car and myself. "

Did a crude rule of thumb analysis, having not watched FP1/FP2 :

Thoughts please....

My current pecking order is Norris>Verstappen>Ferrari for qualy. I think Lando has shown the best pace yet, he still has the fastest middle sector despite not doing a new run of fresh softs. Redbull hiding the most pace at the moment, massively losing on straight despite having the skinniest RW of the top teams. Lando was faster than Max in most corners, we'll have to see how much Max can make up in the straights to compensate. Max was consistently quickest in turn 7.

Max was pretty happy with the car, driving comfort wise I'd say so far, it's been on par with Monza, despite a few complaints about bumpiness under braking in FP1. No particular problems in any a corner, initial understeer seems to have been dialed out.
FP3 should anyway give a much clearer picture. Too much sandbagging going on at the moment.

Helmut Marko tells Sky Germany:
"Let's start with the positives: those were the long runs; we're in the mix there, and tire wear is looking good too."
According to Marko, the qualifying runs are "one to one and a half tenths short," but "that can still be achieved with some fine-tuning," the Austrian explained, emphasizing: "The car has definitely taken a step forward."
"The working window has widened, and when I look at the long-run times, I do believe we can compete with the front runners," he explained optimistically.

Max for the most part this year has been okay with the car though. RB20 was the error. RB21 was the first proper step towards a fix.

From what i saw on the onboard of VER at FP2 on his soft run he didnt seem to push that much through the castle section and still was not too far off. Balance looked decent.

Max is just on another level... Almost half a second ahead with a slightly damp track.
