we're in trouble in slow corners and the setup will not change anything its car concept the car is made for high speed corners this week end only Sainz maybe can grab a point and we need a little bit luck there are at least 5 cars faster than us
Their race pace was still strong, at least from what was reported...
racepace in free practice is not a clear indicator our weakness is clear the slow corners and the 3 sector here we lost half s to Haas Renault and Racing point for me its clear this week end hope a wet race and some crashes from teams that are faster to get points
Actually, Race Pace is a great indicator of what to expect on the race... During the race, the pace advantage on the straights when not under DRS could be a big differentiator... It’s a matter of understanding what gives you the maximum performance possible during the race... If what you lose on S3 is less than what you gain in S1, S2 then that’s the best setup for the team... They could add downforce and cut the gap in S3 and lose too much in the other sectors making the car overall slower during the race.

Sainz lost 0.8 sec to Merc and around 0.4 sec to Renault/Haas etc in S3. This isn't a setup issue; they're just horrible in the slow corners like usual.
The slow corners are in sector 2 though. Sector 3 is mid speed corners, as it starts right after the fast right hander. It comprises the banked left hander, and the stadium section which only has 2 actual right hand corners, you brake for the first and dance with the throttle on the second. I think the biggest problem with McLaren isn't slow corners per-se, rather it is agility in the low-mid speed consecutive corners. Not enough downforce to help point the car, and if they do put on enough downforce to point the car the balance become tricky at higher speeds, and they lose their incredible traction.
Not really sure where the cut off is between Low speed at Medium and medium to high. That sequence of corners (13 to 16) could all be considered Medium speed.
Turn 1 (211KPH) S1 Medium
Turn 2 ( 93KPH) S1 Low Speed
Turns 3,4 aren't really corners cause they're accelerating out of turn 2
Turn 5 (285KPH) S2 High Speed
Turn 6 ( 59KPH) S2 Low Speed
Turn 7 (285KPH) S2 High Speed
Turn 8 ( 96KPH) S2 Low Speed
Turn 9 Probably taken flat out, accelerating out of 8.
Turn 10 (196KPH) S2 Medium speed
Turn 11 taken flat out accelerating out 10.
Turn 12 (205KPH) S3 Medium Speed
Turn 13 (111KPH) S3 Low Speed
Turn 14 Taken as fast as you can accelerate out of 13.
Turn 15(135KPH) S3 Low Speed
Turn 16(169KPH) S3 Medium Speed

JAMES KEY:

“Sweltering temperatures today so tricky conditions. I think it was difficult for everyone to understand the track, the car and the tyres in such low density air and a very high track temperature. We brought just a few test items today but we had a lot of experimental work to do, so there are several different directions and measurements that we looked at throughout the day, on both cars.

“I think this morning was fine, and gave us some general directions to follow; this afternoon, with an even higher track temperature, was a little bit more tricky for us. And, although it is close with our competitors, I think there’s a little bit of work to do overnight to try to consolidate what we know.”

I refuse to believe McLaren's pace suddenly disappeared, they'll be much better off for the rest of the weekend. The FP times back this up on the long run the Haas is a second slower than McLaren.

I don't agree with those numbers. not sure where F1 are getting those from... be interesting to find out how they come up with them.

I thought I was the only one.... They didn’t even include Red Bull in the one lap pace charts. It looks like they combined Carlos and Lando’s times and took the average. Don’t know if they did the same for every team.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

+1. These have been proven wrong multiple times before. F1 needs to step up.

Half a second quicker than yesterday on the first lap, with mediums and non rubbered track (it rained).

Wtf Lando.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

Not a good time for Norris. He has to up his game as Sainz constantly beats him by a large margin.
