Seems like (to me) Max's two wheels on grass overtake did damage to the driveshaft? ultimately leading to a DNF. Bit disappointing for his fans, but it's encouraging for the next time.

Yeah... with a not-in-open-state limited slip diff, the drive shaft must have suffered some twist, which must have misaligned/sheared the molecular lattice structure of the driveshaft ; which then, decided to carefully wait for 19-20 hrs, to then decide to fail structurally.

Guys this is a technical site we cannot be blinded by emotions. I watched that portion of the race and I called it out. These cars run for 24 hours not 90 minutes. Any small damage can get worse.

He is biased.

Anyways facts are facts. The win will come just a matter of when.

Did you see Maro Engel a great driver, one of the best did the same thing as Max with his Mercedes, also on the grass but worse?

I just read this great comment:

"Apparently a car designed to survive more than 24 hours on one of the toughest, bumpiest tracks in the world
suddenly failed many hours later because a driver put a wheel on the grass for one second or made a tiny tap
(something that happens constantly in endurance racing) or G*d forbid he drove a couple seconds a lap quicker in an 8 minute lap.
Yeah… sureeee THAT broke the car! Just say you don’t like Max and get it over with."

Where are the "facts" that you're presenting ? Or claiming.

The insight to which part failed (there's many component within a driveshaft, that's in addition to the shaft itself) has the team published critical detail about the specific component ? Have they even that analysis to hand at this point ?

Yes, this is a technical forum, no you're not presenting any factual detail to confirm the true cause, do you have any facts ? That's right now, at this point in the event, it looks like heresay and wispers currently.

Why but of course, I mean driveshafts are sold in the millions each day, because every time someone goes over a pothole, they tend to disintegrate.

Yes.

I leave this here...

Drive shafts can fail for many reasons. Doesn't have to be a catastrophic failure as some minds are focusing on. It could simply be a torn boot that got some dirt in it, and you don't want that to develop into a huge issue at 180mph..
