F1 Radio Frequencies...

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

F1 Radio Frequencies...

Post

Does anyone have any idea what radio frequencies F1 teams use? Are their transmissions scrambled?

I've decided to get myself a scanner for Christmas & since I'm going for the 2005 season opener I thot I cud use it at Melbourne, to get an insight into a F1 team...

The best I cud find on the net were:

Ferrari use the 450. 6125MHz
McLaren: 169.7600MHz
Sauber: 422.0125Mhz
Renault: 462.2500MHz

But someone told me these are old frequencies & F1 teams use 900MHz frequency bandwidth...

Well I know for sure some guys messed up DC's & Raikko's race at Silverstone last year by jamming McLaren's frequency & both drivers eventually lost contact with the team.... DC ended up in the pits with the pitcrew sleeping!

However I have no such intention, what I'm interested in id driver feedback on a flying lap.... Its priceless to an engineer......

So if any of you've got any info, please share it with us...

Thanx.

As F1 2004 draws to a close lets hope for some stiff competition next year...

Cheers,

Anson.

Personally i would have thought that this went without saying.

I know that some races broadcast on terrestrial television last year here in England had snippets of radio conversation with qualifying,so maybe the F.I.A. have said that all comms must be unscrambled...can anyone shed any light?

From what I've read in the last 4 months, I believe the FIA has banned scrambled frequencies from 2005 onwards. I'm heading down to Melbourne for the season opener with me radio scanner. I shall let you know if I'm able to eavesdrop on the teams. I hope so :)
