Who is this driver (accident photo)

Post

I spotted this photo online and have been intrigued by the dramatic moment captured by the photographer, but I have not been able to figure out who the driver was in this photo or when this accident occurred. Is anyone familiar with photo? I hope the driver survived, but I'm not optimistic.

Never mind. I found my answer: Nigel Corner at the 2000 Goodwood Festival. No wonder the photo was so crisp: it's not from 1960.

Thankfully he lived, and his injuries were not severe, considering the dramatics ... this photo has been haunting me since the first time I saw it.

To those who claim that F1 is too safe these days, this photo is a testament to how far F1 has come.

I never like it when you see the driver flying out the cockpit. Always makes you think the worst and most cases it is. Having said that i've seen some amazing pictures and videos where the drivers walk away fine. I guess its 50/50

Those cars are from an era when it was thought to be safer to be thrown out of a car than be trapped in the wreckage.

Yes. They'd rather break bones than burn to death.
