Driving with Glasses (w/ poll!)

Post

Image

Ah, finally time for a new pair of glasses.

There's things that annoy me about my current pair, mostly that at night I get reflections of street lights and on-coming headlights in them. And I'm without sun protection.

I was wondering, does spending more on lenses (especially the coatings) get rid of the reflections problem?

Also, is it worth it to get prescription sunglasses?

Thanks fellas.

The expensive anti reflection coated thin lenses are well worth the money.

Want perscription aviators. They aren't cheap though, and my eyes keep getting worse

@richard, that's not what my wallet wanted to hear  but thanks all the same :)

@Toz, I know, as if they're not expensive enough to begin with you've got to go and pay for prescription lenses. I'm not even convinced aviators look that good on me, but I understand they're the easiest to cut lenses for.

I got a pair of clear plus a pair of sunglasses, both in the thinnest plastic with all the coatings for around £250. I'll keep them for 2 years (probably longer) so that's only £10 a month for something I use all the time. Put it another way it is only £150 more than the cheapest but the benefit is massive.

High street places charge a flat rate, its never been mentioned that one shape is easier to glaze than another, that's just sales BS. Having said that, if you have a strong prescription, then large aviators will look like bottles so its better go for smaller shapes with a thicker frame.

I was lucky to have my vision corrected or else I would still be driving with my glasses on. I do not think that it is such a pain but it would not make wearing sunglasses possible without specifically designed lenses.

I think the problem would lie if you can't see too far on corners which would them affect how you would commit to them. But other than that, unless you are running on a foggy night, you will be okay.

For driving, I highly recommend you look at the Silhouette frameless. They are the lightest and most comfortable you can buy, and the lenses can be custom cut in pretty much any shape or size you want. Not having any frame in your line of site is a big plus. In the pic below, Bourdais looks like he's wearing a pair of Silhouette SPX's.

They come with tinted clips, or you can have prescription sunglasses lenses made. The clips only come in grey or brown, though, and I'm a G-15 guy.

I also second the anti glare coating.

Oh, good call, Pup, Bourdais's do look like the ones I'm seeing on Silhouette's site. And thanks again Richard, I'm convinced.
