New engines 1.6L V6 - How many RPM will they go?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

New engines 1.6L V6 - How many RPM will they go?

Post

Hello everyone this is my first post in this forum, which I have to admit is excellent, and very useful. I always wanted to have a sort of knowledge base to check and share with other F1 fans.

I'm pretty surprised with this new modification, can't believe engines are going to be 1.6L V6 only, I always loved those beautiful giant engines, their sound were astonished! now I can't imagine how they're going to sound like.

So anyone know which is going to be the RPM limit? how many RPM will they go?

Thanks a lot!

seriously... I'll miss those 19.000 RPM on 2004 season... and I'll miss 18.000 RPM too =(

That engine sounds rubbish, what makes those turbos great is the incredible power to displacement ratio and the fire spitting table manners. Don't think Bernie would allow that now. If we must have something tiny with less than 16,000 rpm then go for something ridiculous like a 1.0L an turn the boost up to 11!

Boost isn't restricted, fuel flow is.

But with fuel flow restricted the teams won't run any more than the optimum fuel air ratio so in that way it is.

I know, this is the worst! We're going to see people turning down boost and/or running stratified charge lean burns to save fuel because otherwise they won't make it the whole race. What is the point of racing if you can't use the full power potential of your engine!?

Here's a question: do you think the turbos will be a twin-scroll design to reduce lag and increase scavenging and efficiency?

There is a huge thread on this that address all of the questions asked so far. We don't really need two of them.
