No Rules fully Electric Racecar

Post

Was alerted to this by the latest issue of racecar engineering:-
With over 850 horsepower the Lola Drayson all-‐electric sports car aims to be the fastest electric powered race car to lap a circuit. Showcasing technology such as inductive charging, composite battery power, moveable aerodynamics and electrical regenerative damping, the B12/69EV will be one of the most advanced zero emission competition cars to run.
Sounds very interesting...

Particularly interesting:-
Structural Carbon Battery
There's a bit more info on this particular aspect in the racecar engineering mag, but nothing on RE's website....

The structural carbon battery is very interesting if it can offset the weight of batteries. Of course, the power to weight of motors is still not great at under 3bhp/kg. They're on a par with a standard bike engine. If you know of lighter motors with more power, I'd love to know about them! I have neglected to mention ECUs and exhausts, but motors require controllers too. I don't see the point in regenerative damping - is there really any worthwhile energy generated by this? I see that moveable aero is working its way down to club level as can be seen here.

Apparently the energy density in't that great at the moment, but something to keep our eyes on for the future....

For you and I; no, much bigger gains to be had elsewhere for less £££'s.

Sweet.

How's the electric boost system coming along?

If the structural cells are no heavier than current bodywork/chassis, then there's many kilos that are essentially free. I've made no progress with the electric system on my car. Money, time and skills are all in short supply at the moment!

1KW from a large truck. I assume that means a 40 ton truck. Scaling down, that's 11 watts from my 455kg race car. That might run the data logger...
