Can Vettel win 5 races in a run?

Post

One web site asked the question and I can easily look at the odds to make up my mind. But I think the question will bring interesting answers from the users. Since the mods don't like this kind of speculation and odds in the race thread I post a new thread here.
If he actually makes it to 5 in a row I will modify the question for Austin!

My guess is he wont, not because he couldnt.. If Vettel win the WDC at Austin, he should do the right thing to help Webber finish the year with a victory. That I think is the RB spirit.

To somewhat alleviate the potential for a Love/Hate fest for Vettel, I would point out that Red Bull has got everything together to make for a Vettel finish. As we saw in Korea, Japan, and India, the team has rallied hard. I do concur that Red Bull, if they can wrap up Vettel's WDC in Austin, the Webber may get the chance to be unleashed and the team would push for his third win of the season.

Statistically speaking, it's very very unlikely. Those who have won 5 on the trot in the past have had way bigger car advantages than Vettel has now - Mansell, Ascari, Schumacher, Brabham and Clark all have won 5 on the trot I believe. Ascari and Schumacher pushed that even further with 7 on the trot. But then again, those who have 4 on the trot have generally also had bigger car advantages.

From a performance standpoint though, with the way Vettel and the RB8 has been performing lately, I don't see why not.

Barring any force majeure (reliability, crashes), in fact - I think he has to be favorite coming into Abu Dhabi. The Red Bull has proven to be strong in the dinky slow speed corners before, and Vettel has a strong record at Abu Dhabi too

I feel he will win this race and also the one at Austin. But I doubt Webber would be able to take the victory in Brazil. My guess is Alonso is going to be ahead of Webber in the race and just close to Vettel. Hence Vettel will have to take the win there also.

I don't want to see anymore technical failures from neither Vettel nor Alonso. Let them both race hard and fair and may the best man win (though we all know who that might be in that case). I am starting to believe both of them deserve the title equally now. Why would Vettel deserve less just because he has Newey on his side!!

I guess so. After 7 different GP winners in the first 7 GP of 2012 will we see 7 wins for Vettel in the last 7 GP of the season ? That would be incredible but it's still possible...

Good pattern catch, Sombrero. 7 races at the start, 7 races at the end. Remarkable change in fortunes.

Make it 7 in a row! :)

And it would be great for Vettel to win his 100th F1 start in Austin! :D

I voted that Vettel will win. Not because I want it to happen, but because I think it will. This season started so exciting and I'm saddened to see it end with the monotony of 2011. Not that I dislike Vettel, I just don't like 3 in a row winners. I think this also goes to show that the teams will figure out how to work around the gimmicks. I loved the new tires at the beginning of the season, but it has become clear that the exciting start to the season wasn't because the tires gave that, it was because no one really understood them. It's a characteristic of change, not a characteristic of the tires.

Why not?
"There is a credit card with the Ferrari logo, issued by Santander, which gives the scuderia a % of purchases made with the card...

I would guess that such a serious amount of money would allow them to ignore the constant complains of a car that was nowhere near as bad as their #1 driver tried to sell throughout the season.

Heck, a car on which Massa finishes in the podium or has to lift so that his teammate finishes ahead (As we saw often in the final races of the year) is, by no means, a "bad" car."

ATM betting odds are:
Vettel 1.92 = 52%
Hamilton 4.4 = 23%
Alonso 10.5 = 10%
The residual 16% probability to win the race goes to other drivers. The Ferrari is particularly strong on race pace as seen in FP2 long runs but they do not seem to have a DDRS of their own which would help in qualifying. Vettel on the other hand is a master of qualifying in twilight conditions as his track record in Abu Dhabi shows.

Unfortunately for him I think the wheel that hasn't been in his favour most of this season will swing back to where it was before his victory streak -he's due for an unlucky DNF.

Abu Dhabi does appear to be McLaren territory.
