A New Team

Post

Afternoon all,

now that it looks almost 100% that HRT are gone, the grid is down to 22 cars.

How early do we think a replacement team will be found? Can technically anyone willing to pay the entry fee, join? do they have to go through some form of checks like when HRT/Caterham and Marussia did ?

do we think that 2014 being what it is, would be a perfect time to start a new team, and if so, How far behind are they already?

If someone bought HRT it would be just to get in the door, there's not much of a team to go on. The employees are probably scattered into the wind by now, the facilities and infrastructure are minimal at best.

But who knows what this guy is thinking.

Depends. Either it will be a Chinese team in the near future (as in 2014) or when the economic crisis ends. Also depends what efforts the fia is going to make to attract a new team.

If F1 were a more viable undertaking maybe we'd see more teams and suppliers interested, rather than shying away.

I am still not ruling out Japanese manufecturer returning to F1. I mean not just as a supplier, but as a manufecturer

Hopefully Nissan (by way of Infiniti) are getting pumped up, given their new title relationship with Red Bull. And I don't see Red Bull ditching a proven supplier like Renault to for untested Infiniti engines unless the turbo deals materialize, so Red Bull could just be the stepping stone for Infiniti to jump off of or buy out RBR.

Nissan is not shy when it comes to upper echelons of motorsport. Out of the japanese racing contingency at LeMans over past few decades, they are of the few that regularly compete and bring new technology to the sport. Its been a decade now since their dabbles in IndyCar and IndyLights, i think it's time for them to take it to the top.

good point. I was not aware that they were in an alliance together so I had to look it up.

Maybe, but they have to close some factories in Europe. I don't think they have the money to build a F1 team up. But as a engine supplier.... I don't know. I always wonder why teams like Honda, BMW and so on, stopped providing engines. The development was frozen and Honda and BMW had very competitive engines.
I heard something about a Honda comeback, but in these times I think no company will become a F1 Team. The F1 has to become more famous and popular. It is the most popular racing series in the world, but it is also the most expensive
