2013 Season Calendar

With just 18 races confirmed so far it looks a bit sad at the moment.

F1 guys are going to be happy this year (fans not so much) with just 3 races in 3 months summer is going to be more boring than ever.

With 1 year deals not looking likely at Portugal or France and negotiations seizing at Germany, 2013 is going to have just 6 GPs (might be an all time low)

I think/believe Bernie has pulled the pin on nurburgring negotiations/talks?

also lets not forget race weekend attendance has been steadily declining in the last 3-4 years :/
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

I predict that there will be 19 GP with 2-three day test sessions in the month break.

Germany is gone this year, Austria may still be the one on the cards for a one year-cut price deal as a deal maker for Red Bull in the grand scheme of things.

The two test sessions will be at tracks that are easy for the teams to get to, probably Magney Cours and probably Mugello so to cut costs as Ferrari did last year.

However the teams will all agree that each of the race drivers will only be given 1 day each of the 6 available in order to test young guys out or put TDs in the cars, so Pedro can get a handle on the Ferrari in order to better their simulator or so the likes of STR can run Da Costa to put the heat on Riccardo and Vergne.

However some teams may wish to take this opportunity to run a 2 year old chassis with a 2014 engine in the back; Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull may all do this in order to get a early handle on the V6 power plants.

I think he means the 4 week break between the British GP and the Hungarian GP, unless Austria gets a race

Exactly this. Thats the 4 week break that there will more likely be testing.

Id also like to think it would be a good opportunity for Pirelli to take their updated R30 to test at the same time as the teams, meaning they can get really dialled in data on the R30. If they dont go to Austria id like to think the Red Bull Ring/A1 Ring and Mugello would be two great venues for Testing, and just that as some drivers were critical of Mugello last year.

I'm curious as to why there'd be in-season testing like last year when everyone agreed it was complete waste of time (I think the appropriate quote is someone, perhaps Horner, saying the only thing it taught them was that Mugello is a really fun track to drive in an F1 car and you can get really good pasta in Mugello.

So what'd be different? Why was 2012's test such a waste of time?

The German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring is now confirmed for the 2013 season!

According to this newspaper article

Ecclestone and Karl-Josef Schmidt from the Ring found an agreement. There will be a press conference tomorrow with more details.
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

The 8th slot will not be filled i think. With the German side of things being tied up, thats a test session forgotten about.

However, if the one that Turkey/Austria/Magney date isnt filled, id guess a 3 or 4 day test will be on the cards.

Nurburgring deal for 2013 German Grand Prix

Post

I see Bernie has buried the axe with Nurburgring - nice to see another classic track staying on the calendar. That empty slot in July is still lurking. I don't recall seeing empty slots in a calendar in previous years, I guess economic reality is starting to hit home, hence Bernie's sudden enthusiasm for old established tracks?
