Fascinating video, it's always incredible to see how much we progressed (perhaps losing touch in some areas?)

It's hard to see for sure, but the roofed car that takes the right hander between about 2.34 and 2.44 looks like it has a red cross on the side. I wonder if it was common practise to run the ambulance in the thick of the pack or if the driver just fancied having a go :D

*edit* on closer inspection I thinkit's probably just the car number. Shame ... it would have been a laugh if the medical delegate won ...

Hudson would also go on to dominate nascar for a few years in the 50s

Somkey Yunick was the lead mechanic "factory" cars. If you havent read his book you should. Its a pretty cool history of racing and most things car related in the US from WW2 to the early 2000s

That would be him. The car wasn't really 7/8s though it was just really flushed. The pulled in the drip rails pushed out the windows little tricks like that. What banned it was the hole in frame they ran the exhaust through so they could run the car lower to ground. Wheel base and a few more things.
