Adrian Newey On The Way Out?

Post

Today's rumor, via GrandPrix.com:

Allison to replace Newey at Red Bull after 2014?

James Allison, the highly-rated F1 engineer who recently left Lotus, is being linked with Red Bull's future. When Briton Allison left Lotus, he was most strongly linked with a move to Ferrari. But Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reports that, a month after Allison's departure from Enstone, it is "still not clear" where he is headed.

Correspondents Michael Schmidt and Bianca Leppert said: "Rumours are increasing that maybe he will go to Red Bull. "Those speculating in the paddock believe that Adrian Newey will stop at the end of 2014.

"The design genius often expresses his frustration with the increasingly restricted regulations, and fears that the new turbo era will make F1 an engine formula."

Adrian Newey has been 'on the way out' since 2002 already, yet he is still here. Doubt he'll just quit now

Agreed. He's ultra competitive. So much so he drives race cars in his days off! Although he might not like where F1 is heading, there's enough there for his skills to make a difference. He'll relish the challenge and I wouldn't bet against him rising to it.

Seems like only yesterday:
"If Didi (Mateschitz) was going to sell I think he would look after Christian," said Ecclestone. "Christian and Adrian Newey have got long term contracts."
Long term would suggest more than 6 months......

To be fair - Newey isn't a part of Infiniti Red Bull Racing either - he's part of Red Bull Technology. That could be a clever word play on RBR's part. (i'm not saying it's the case, but I'm saying not to discount that possibility)

For some reason, I was drawn to those comments. I don't know why.

If Newey ever goes anywhere, pretty sure that will be by his choice.

Journalistic hyperbole.
If the headline asks a question, try answering 'no.' Is This the True Face of Britain's Young? (Sensible reader: No.) Have We Found the Cure for AIDS? (No; or you wouldn't have put the question mark in.) Does This Map Provide the Key for Peace? (Probably not.) A headline with a question mark at the end means, in the vast majority of cases, that the story is tendentious or over-sold. It is often a scare story, or an attempt to elevate some run-of-the-mill piece of reporting into a national controversy and, preferably, a national panic. To a busy journalist hunting for real information a question mark means 'don't bother reading this bit'.

Maybe it was just to get people thinking, which is what smart communication does. Ray had a great original thought, completely new that no one had considered. If Ray has simply answered 'no' the world would be a poorer place for it.

Could someone with a twitter account reply to the RBR tweet to ask about RB technology.

It is odd that we still don't know where Allison is going, and it is interesting to talk about that.

My distaste of the headline is that it conflates several issues to infer Newey is about to walk away from F1. Yes that is a possible destination for Allison, and yes it is possible Newey has decided to walk away. However, there are also a lot of other possibilities as well.

The headline should be "Where is James Allison going to work?" Of course that doesn't attract the same page hits as "Newey on the way out".

Unlike other pieces of speculation I can see this happening, and would suit Newey and Red Bull's style. Identify the one individual they believe is the best and go and get him.

I am prescient, apparently. With America's Cup racing now entering the era of hydrofoils, Newey could bring a lifetime of expertise and be a terrific asset for any time that might sign him.

Red Bull's Newey era set to end?

The Adrian Newey era at Red Bull could be nearing its end.

It emerged last weekend that, after four consecutive championship clean-sweeps with Sebastian Vettel, the eyes of the team's famous designer may be wandering elsewhere.

"Maybe the America's Cup, who knows?" said the 54-year-old Briton, admitting a new project could be on the horizon.

Now, the Mirror newspaper reports that Sir Ben Ainslie, the famous British sailor, is travelling to Abu Dhabi this weekend and will meet with Newey.

"Someone with his (Newey's) design and technical experience would be invaluable," said Ainslie.

It is already known that Red Bull is losing its other two key figures in Newey's renowned aerodynamics department.

McLaren is waiting for Peter Prodromou's 2014 contract to expire before welcoming him to Woking, and we reported recently that his 'number 2' has also been signed by the British team.

Until now, that 'deputy' has been unnamed, but Germany's Auto Motor und Sport has now identified him as Dan Fallows.

Fallows' job title at Red Bull is aerodynamics team leader.

"McLaren obviously have lost significant technical staff over the last few years and it is only natural that they are looking to recruit," Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told F1's official website.
