no tyre changes during the race

Post

With f1 saying the lack of fuel stops was to make f1 greener how can they justify all of the tyres that go to a race weekend?

the only reason we see pit stops is to publicise the tyre supplier

For each driver this should be the maximum
2 sets of tyres for FP1, 2 & 3
1 set of tyres for Qualifying
1 set of tyres for the race

2 sets of Inters ?
2 sets of wets ?

This would also mean a lot more running in practice and qualifying, it would also make racing more easier to follow for the casual fan as the order on the track would be the actual race order, currently too many places change during pit stops and not on the track.

they done this in 2005 and i don't think it was too much of a success as they only done it for 1 year

they had troubles such as drivers not pitting when there tyres were dangerous causing a big accident for Kimi (for example).

Also you have to think now it would create a very boring race (we don't have refuelling now) so you would have no pit stops at all. Also, if anyone did have to pit then there race is basically over as the other 22 cars will be 25+ secs down the road

your idea wouldn't work i'm afraid they was f1 currently is

you wouldn't get any additional running in practice from you idea either, i don't see how reducing the amount of tyres they can have will encourage them to run more

How do you come to that conclusion?

Yea it was done before. It was a disaster.

They gave penalties to anyone who changed tyres during the race. So people were running on flat spotted or otherwise damaged tyres for fear of losing position due to a penalty.

It culminated in this:

Kimi stayed out on a flat spotted tyre which eventually degraded to the point of it destroying the suspension.

At this point everyone realised it was a pretty stupid rule.

yeh, it would make qualifying a waiting game, no one would want to waste the first few fast laps on a new
tire laying down rubber for everyone else and every one wants to be the last over the line to get the laps
with the fastest track

Well we've banned refueling...talked about banning everything from tear-offs to tyre changes. Why don't we just ban racing? We can let the drivers duke it out on an X-Box game....they can wear dresses and lipstick!

The ultimate reductio ad absurdium. I love it!
