What Socked you the most about F1?

Post

I always chat with ppl regarding the things that "Shocked" you the most about F1.
(Shocked.. because I can't find a better word for it).

Let me go with this for example.
In 1993 I always though, ok... this F1 car has to be similar to my dad's car, so drivers must use his right feet you to throttle/break and the left feet to clutch... I was way surprised when I found out that MSC used his left feet to break.

So I tried this in my dad's car and almost crashed to a pole...(My dad laughed that I think he cried)

What was yours?

watching then come directly at you on the TV shots and then turn away. How fast they can change direction is mind boggling.

I am socked by the restrictions on innovation, the political power that certain red teams have, how polarised the field is in a 4 year old formula

That's pretty cool.

What socks or shocks me about F1? I dunno, not much. How expensive tickets are, maybe. How low tech the series is in some ways, but operates under the general fan assumption of being cutting edge. All the spin about how the sport needs to be road/consumer relevant or whatever, which I still feel very strongly is nonsense.

What shocked me was how cheap the tickets were. I payed $80 for my 4 day general admission ticket for the Melbourne GP and the amount of value I got for that was staggering, especially when comparing to local events at my local race track, which can cost up to $50 for a single day with far less on offer.

3 days at Austin, TX is $200 General Admission, up to $1000 for good grandstand seats.

Though thinking now in comparison, I've paid $150-200 for cheapest seats at a good [American] football game. But that's still damn expensive as well given I've also paid $15 for cheapest seats at a lesser team's event.
