Why older teams are falling behind?

Post

After watching the Hungary race, it really make me wonder why all those once dominating teams like Mclaren, Ferrari and Williams are falling behind, while "newer" teams like Merc, Lotus, Redbull are on podium.

Money, hunger, old ways of doing things.
I think we could see a period of domination by Mercedes from 2014 onwards.
All the brains are relocating there.

Your domination doesnt last forever, one day anyone will get bested by someone else in the same area. They arent falling behind, they just got bested. Some day the roles will differ and Red Bull will be in this position for example.

to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

Since when Tyrrell and Stewart ever perform like Mercedes and Red bull?
To you it's a name change, to me, it's a change I'm ethos, philosophy and personnel.
If only it where as simple as you portray

Isn't that the point? Money comes in, a new broom with new leaders and new methods. The phoenix of Merc and RB rise from the ashes. Only 2 long establisehd teams have not gone through that cycle - Ferrari & Williams. Having said that, Ferrari have done the phoenix trick a few times via internal changes.

So that just leaves Williams as the only team that has not been reinvented. One could say they're suffering from that too.

.....

Of course I'm assuming Marussia, Caterham and Force India are not old enough to have gone through that cycle.

@Jersey Tom

That team Mercedes died a very long time ago, and has no similarities in location or staff. Yes it's Mercedes but not in the way you are suggesting. Chalk and cheese. Indeed, does the W154 also bear the ensign of the Affalterbach tuner's?
Hell the shade of silver is even different.
Yes, that NEW team Mercedes-AMG with strong links via it's parent company, to the hallowed silver arrows of old.

@Richard
The point I made was reference the New/Old team comment Pup made. Stewart is not anywhere near Red Bull.
I get that some things stay the same, but in terms of working it's way forwards we can see that it's not a simple name change.
The amount of change that has happened at both Red Bull and Mercedes(from purchase) really do warrant these teams being called new(ish).
