Alonso is the complete driver ....

Post

Watching the F1 Show atm and Massa said some interesting things.
They were talking about how he´s so many strong teammates and said that Alonso was the most complete driver he´s raced against.
He did say that Schumacher was very complete but that Alonso was just one step higher.

I'm not sure hwo that relates to driving style? I mean , it's fine that he's a more complete driver and all, but what has that got to do with his style of driving?

I expected that comment, i looked around and every thread about drivers has been locked because it just derailed and figured this was the best place.
Just found it to be a very interesting comment from Massa who knows these guys inside out. Admin can move if they want.

It would be relevant to the thread if there was an explanation why and just what Alonso is doing behind the wheel in terms of his style that makes Massa think that. A blanket statement like that doesn't mean anything, however.

I guess more complete means slightly better in every area, driving, thinking, talking to engineers, getting the job done no matter what shape the car is in etc.
Maybe he felt he had a bigger chance against Schumacher etc.

I think it´s just a recognition of what many already feel regardless if you are a hamilton/raikkonen/vettel fan. Alonso since 2010 has simply been incredible.
Some of his opening laps just can´t be described with words, it´s just pure magic. If your a true F1 fan you have to respect and acknowledge that.
Yes we know Alonso´s mind can be a bit weak but when the guy is on form he´s one of the greatest drivers of all time. Bar none.
I´ve never been a fan of Alonso as i am Hamilton or as some are towards Vettel but looking objectively at things the past years there´s no questions he´s so far ahead of everyone else it´s not even a competition.

You really wanna open that can of worms?
There's plenty of discussion among pundits about what order the top guys are at, but your 'objective' claim of "being so far ahead it's not even a competition" is pretty ludicrous.

You are more then welcome to challenge that view.

By definition, one cannot objectively look at a driver, because that would involve subjective views about the car's performance, as well as making certain assumptions, such as how the driver performs in qualifying as well as in races. In order to "objectively" call a car fast or slow, then we would have to make the "subjective" assumption that either qualifying or the race is an accurate barometer of the car's performance - which means that the view isn't objective anymore.

Not in this thread. Let's keep this discussion back to driving styles.

Alonso simply has that ability to just drive at a very high pace right away and maintain it for as long as he needs to, he's also very good at reading a situation. He maybe does not possess the fastest raw speed on the grid, but he is very consistent with the sublime pace he does possess.

Yes, he is a very talented driver. He's also a great camping companion too, he loves a cycling trip into the countryside with his 6 tents.

However, there is a reason why these threads get closed. It saves the fanboys from certain raised blood pressure.
