Rush: Top ten greatest F1 rivalries

Post

Hi,

I just joined the forum to share this blog about the greatest F1 rivals.

http://www.evanshalshaw.com/Blog/blog-r ... lries.html

I thought this might be good topic for regulars to the F1 Technical forum, as I think everybody has their personal favourite. Any comments are welcome and I hope you find it interesting. If it's not quite right for the forum then just ignore this post, as I don't want to intrude on your community or irritate regular members.

Thanks,

Tudor

I hesitate to even list Didier Pironi and Gilles Villeneuve as a top rivalry.

Gilles got sandbagged by Pironi at San Marino in one of the most despicable acts to ever grace F1. They never had a real rivalry as Gilles was dead 2 weeks later.

Nice blog. I think I would put the so-called Hunt-Lauda rivalry in 10th place. That story of the supposed rivalry was put into by the british media after Niki's comeback in Monza. It did well to sell the F-1 to the public in Great Britain.

The movie makers have done mainly two mistakes :

- the F-1 they described is more 60'ish than 70'ish.
- the Hunt-Lauda fight for the title back in 1976 has nothing to do with the Senna-Prost driven scenary they used in Rush.

Despite that Rush is a good racing movie if you don't take it too seriously... and hopefully it is good for the sport.

Thanks everyone for your comments, glad the blog sparked a bit of a discussion.

Sombrero, I agree with what you said about the British Media selling F1 to the public. With a few exceptions, I imagine F1 behind the scenes is a lot like boxing - with rivalries hyped up as drivers hating each other to spark public interest. Like I say, that's not always the case though.

If anyone could share it further on Twitter or on a personal blog, I'd really appreciate it.
