Dietrich Mateschitz is freaking smart!

Post

Dietrich Mateschitz brought adrian newey into his team.. i think that is the best move possible. if u look at other teams they seem to be spending so much money on drivers and forgetting that the most important thing is the car!! this was the mistake of both bar and toyota. toyota now has gascoyne and there is a significant inprovement. BAR still has to to learn that getting 2 good drivers wont do much if the car is still slow.. RED BUll with DC now has Newey in there to help guide them. too bad he cant go earlier to help with the development of the 2006 car maybe the end of next seasona and 2007 we will see them improving

I wonder how involved David Coulthard was in this move.
And poor Ron Dennis, how can he hang on to Kimi now?

He probably saw how much D.C. is enjoying his time there and also wanted to get the McLaren chain off his leg. Good for him. Ron is probably spitting blood isn't he?

So, would it be safe to say that McLaren has no chance of winning the championship next year?

I cannot even imagine what was going through Ron's mind after Newey gave him the news.

I can't help thinking that Newey's departure was on the cards for a number of years. I also feel as though when Ron Dennis tempted Newey back from the Jaguar deal, Newey might have a agreed a contract with the guarantee that he would leave after 2005. ie. Ron knew it was coming.

However, this won't have an effect on Mclaren next year (at least not in the early stages). I reckon that Newey will have been working on the MP4/21 all this year, and it will be the dogs bollocks of a car. Newey will leave his Mclaren legacy and then go to Red Bull ready for an assault in 2007.

I must say when I saw that news, my jaw hit the floor! Mind you, where else would Newey go? He's done williams, done mclaren, he wouldn't look good in a red shirt (rules out the Fezz), toyota have mikey.
That leaves BMW and Red Bull. If it was me, I know that if I chose Red Bull, I get to work in the UK, and that my buddy DC is around, and I get a huge paypacket (plus loadsa bonuses when red bull win!), and I have an almost unlimited budget to play with.

Not sure he'd get all that with Beemer.

Red Bull it is then.

If I'd been told to wear those sh*tty McLaren orange T shirts, I would have worked anywhere for free..............that's the real reason he left.

I was just joking. Newey will not leave McLaren until the end of February (damn, was that ever a smart move by Ron - formulating the contract so that his key guy cannot leave until the beginning of the next season), so he'll not have enough time to make any significant changes, at least, until the end of the season. Perhaps, something like Mike's TF104B and TF105B.

BTW, RH1300S, couldn't agree with you more. With a budget of 250mil, you'd think they'd pay somebody to design better looking T-shirts.

On a deeper level, I don't believe Newey would have left McLaren for a "nicer" job and a good salary. IMHO - he MUST believe that Red Bull are going to make a serious investment in their technical facilities.

The message is....they are serious about winning 8)

Although Adrian Newey may relish a new challenge, the talented engineer decided to make the switch on the promise of a $10m per year Red Bull pay cheque. That's the news of a McLaren 'source', who told the respected Guardian newspaper that Ron Dennis' final offer stopped at around the $6m mark. "Ron Dennis and chief executive Martin Whitmarsh did not feel such an investment could be justified," the newspaper wrote. McLaren chairman Dennis, and 'F1 CEO' Whitmarsh, did not comment.

There are just a very small amount of engineers who can build a winning car, and Newey is one. Guys like that really are worth their weight in gold. And if you don't believe me, look at Willaims, who have not enjoyed championship success since Newey left.
So McLaren will have a competitive car next season, but after that, all bets are off.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari get Kimi to sign with them in '07

Hmmm.......reading between the lines, are you making a connection between Ferrari engine, Newey & Kimi (with a Newey/Ferrari chassis)?

How about this........maybe Kimi will have a Ferrari engine, but not in a Ferrari chassis?

Naw, I think Kimi is sitting on the fence keeping his options with McLaren and Ferrari alive. The '06 McLaren ought to be good enough to win, but what heppens after that in '07 is a crap shoot. There are no guarantees the '07 McLaren will be as good. So, maybe the rumors of Kimi eventually going to ferrari may actually happen.

As someone has already partially eluded to, maybe Kimi and DC reunited? By 2007, the teams with the dosh will be pushing the traditionally competitive teams. ie. Red Bull (who have Newey) and Toyota (who have gazza) will in my opinion be on par, or ahead of the Mclarens/Ferraris/Williams/Renaults. Ok, maybe not early 2007, but mid-to-late 2007 and 2008. We could see 2 F1 Superteams with huge budgets battling, while the traditionally top teams scrap for the lower points paying positions!

redbull may be goin in the right direction but i doubt they will be a superteam. i think we will see toyota and honda battle it out.. Maybe even bmw .. but i think the other european consrtructors who has been in the sport for years wont fork out that much money

UNLESS roman abromovich gets bored with chelsea and come into formula one!! that crazy guy spent 900million + on a yacht ..who know how much will he spend to get success in formula one!!

Now there's a clever bloke! He gets slated in the press a fair bit over here but I think people are starting to warm to him a bit now. I think he's a bloody genius! (Not a footy fan btw)

You are spot on correct. I used to be a massive Footie fan...but I cant watch it often now...it bores me sometimes. Anyway...Alex Furgeson used to hate Arsene Wenger because Arsene was the only manager Fergie could annoy with Phycology. Recently he did so. But now, not only does Mourihno resist Fergie's phycological tactics....they dishes them out to Fergie also!

The man is an absolute genius. The press slate him becuase they still dont understand that what they slate him for is all part of his game plan. Dunno if you knew this...but he has a degree in Phycology. A coincidence? I think not.
