Good Old Frank Williams

Post

I hope I'm right - it seems to me that FW has rather cannily got a good package together for this year.

Got rid of BMW (If anyone heard that traction control working, you would have to wonder how much the car was slowed by the engine - AND all that bitching couldn't have been good for team spirit)

Young Button has paid him a nice little sum not to be there

Cosworth engines (probably a decent bet in year 1 of the new V8 spec cars)

Bridgestone tyres (who would bet against them coming back at Michelin very strongly?)

Mark Webber (I'm a bit on the fence, but he seems to have the class/speed required and is a team player)

Nico Rosberg (A genuine talent)

Now he signs Wurz (a top line test driver)

Looking good Frank 8)

But what about the design department?

Specifically, Sam Michael. Since his appointment, all I've seen him do is turn a contender (Monaco 2005) into, well, a car that races alongside Jordans.

Sack Sam!

The design side is a worry, Sam Michael is rated highly - but there's not much evidence of him being that good.

I'm not so sure last year's car was all that bad, I think the engine needs to take a good part of the blame.

All good moves for 2006 season but having Bridgestone in 2006 is good move long-term which could ruin 2006 performance.

having tyre changes again favours bridgestones because of their construction.

FW certainly has been planning for the future and possibly moving to Toyota (Lexus) engines for 2007 is an even beter move.
Vote 1 for GPs back in Adelaide

Sir Frank was always good at "motivating" his drivers. With Wurtz sitting on the sidelines, if either Webber or Rosberg falters, they may find their seat gone for a while.
And no doubt, he's always trying to position his company for the future. Witness how he divested himself from tobacco sponsorship when other clung on to that lucrative form of revenue. Look at Ferrari, they are sponsored by Marboro, but can't run any tobacco advertising. One day, Marboro will decide it isn't worth it to spend many millions on a car that doesn't even have their logo on it.

If Cosworth and Bridgestone get it right then Williams will be really good. I dont think the Williams car is that far off.

Thats exactly what I think is wrong with Williams....

For the past 5 - 6 years its always that next years car 'should' be good. Sorry to say Frank, you need a car this season!

Williams ended both the 2003 and 2004 season with the quickest but still managed to start the following season with a crappy car.

I really hope for Williams sake that the 2006 car is really good in Bahrain!

Personal choice. Personally, I love the older Ferrari V-12's.
