I was a little bit upset when hearing that Newey will leave Mclaren. He is the main "brain" for those McLaren succes a couple of years ago. I do not agree with Haug said that McLaren car is not from Newey. It is true, but you have to look back in the process of F1 cars development. Newey chooses the best "ingredient" the way to produce the MP4-19,19B,20 and the others techincal people was working on this "ingredient". The "ingredient" from Newey works. We are not getting nowhere even working like hell if we lost. Newey find the that way. They have a quickest car last year but halt by the realibility issue. Even he'd leave McLaren, we have to appreciate his excelence job a couple of years ago for McLaren. I'm the big fan of McLaren and hope this team will remain succes without Newey.Who is the new Technical Director Of McLaren to replace 'mighty" Newey?
There's no reason to be upset. A technical team is made by hundreds of people nowadays, and what is important are the methods and philosophy developed by a design team.
Look at Renault: there was mighty Gascoyne, that left for Toyota. What have they done? Replace him by someone with another big ego, that would turn the engineering department upside down and try to implement new working methods? No, they kept the team stable, put one of his close assistants on charge and kept the machine running. Result? Bob Bell now it's a known name and finally Renault won the two titles in 2005.
Anyway, look at the heads of McLaren's Technical Department and tell me if you remain upset:
Paddy Lowe - Engineering Director
Neil Oatley - Design and Development Director
Mike Coughlan - Chief Designer
Peter Prodromou - Chief Aerodynamicist
Nicholas Tombazis - Vehicle Project Director
Tim Goss - Chief Engineer MP4-21
Pat Fry - Chief Engineer MP4-22
Mark Williams - Chief Engineer Vehicle Dynamics

I agree it's not necessarilyl as grim as you might think at first. But two of the guys on that list have now left too, with a third one on the way out.
yes with the hundreds of developers in one dept, the departure of one is insignificant when he/she has left their philosophy of best practices and methods in the core of the team.
It is possible that over time the effects of Newey with McLaren will fade and be forgotten. I've seen it with companies outside the racing world where after the departure of a key figure, the effects are not felt until a few years later and when the rules of the industry market has changed. That's when you truly know if the team has taken on those core values and practices.
