don't Williams and other F1 teams use these simulators?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

To finish first, first you must finish.

The way I drive that hydraulics would throw me off like a raging bull

Harness and helmet would be necessary for me

Lovely circuit, by the way :D
I'm glad that Zandvoort is negotiating for a A1GP in 2006!

Amazing peice of kit. However, I am suprised that it does not tilt from side to side to simulate cornering g-forces.

It can't be simulated because it would require constant lateral motion at certain speed.

A constant lateral acceleration I think.

Well, first it would require to have ability for lateral motion and if that could be done than it would need to have ability for acceleration which would be easy to achieve if the lateral motion could be performed.

If you tilt the bed on its side, a portion of your weight will act on the side of your body, simulating lateral g. However, the maximum you could generate is 1g at 90 deg but it would give you some sensation. You wouldn't be able to simulate the F1 cornering forces in a static situation without some sort of g suit.

Something like that rig can fool the body into believing that it is actually experiencing true G-forces. The idea is not to re-create the exact forces, but to fool the body into believing it is.
Trust me, if you tried something like that, apart from the intellectual knowledge that you were in a sim, you would believe you drove the real thing. It's that realistic.
