RA168E piping

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Hey all, just wondering what the silver piping from the wastegate is?

The larger diameter duct is probably cooling airflow, since it appears to be made of aluminum. The wastegate opening pressure is regulated by controlling the air pressure differential at the actuator that is linked by the two smaller diameter hoses. The pipe just to the left of the lambda sensor is the outlet pipe for the wastegate.

Where is the silver connected to? Why would their be airflow going in/out of the wastegate? I thought wastegates just deal with exhaust gasses?

Sorry many questions..

Agree with that riff_raff. The pipe just joins into a heat shield around the gland area of the WG so it would be cooling air. If you remove that heat shield you would probably see a finned section or an exposed valve stem. Idea is to cool the valve stem and stop heat transfer to the diaphragm.

I cannot provide a link, but there was a very cool technical paper on that engine, adding tolulene to the fuel, charts, weights, dimensions.
