A new concept car uh? For sure, Renault rocks in F1, but when it's about commercial sport car, they're always too shy. The former Alpine 1300S was a legendary car at it's time, but then the spider was a deception, especially compared to the fantastic Lotus Elise, the clio V6 was really a pity in terms of performance (I admit the design was great and the intent of rebirthing the R5 turbo II was a good one). So now, reviving the alpine is a good intent too, but even if it is to become a production car (wich I seriously doubt), I'm sure it will be a "shy" car too, nostalgic, but uncompetitive with a powerless 4 cylinder engine...
That said, I would really love to be wrong.
The original Alpine was a stunningly beautiful car, gorgeous from all angles. I truly love it's lines and looks. This new concept car is, sadly, following down the well established "retro" path, of copying old designs. The VW bug, the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro...
So although I absolutely love the lines and form of the Alpine, it's been done before.
I would rather miss an F1 race than drive the 'new AC Cobra'
They killed it.

I don't mind it at all. If you ignored the original I think the car is neat in its own right. Hopefully they put the clio sport engine in the back and make it handle well.
I know which one I prefer I love the orginal, so much greater than the sum of it's parts - a car that lives and breathes (and stinks of hot oil & fuel )
I think you'd have to see it in the flesh to be sure - it might all be about proportion.
If it's tiny and light and has a mental engine (doesn't need lots of power - I mean one that revs like crazy and sounds great) - then a cautious thumbs up..........
If it's at all fat - then forget it
I wonder if they'd dare hang the engine out the back or is this FWD?
I never saw a Renault, since I live in Canada, but I must say I like the design of that Renault, I also heard that Carlos Ghosn wants Renault to be position as a prestige brand because being a volume car company is not helping that much for Renault/Peugeot in Europe
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.
