Here in The Netherlands most of our motorways are made of stuff like this for many years now. It's called ZOAB, zeer open asfalt beton (very open road concrete). It looks great, but has it downsides:
- it can only be used in high use circumstances, else it clogges up
- grip is very low, what makes it directly unusable for racing, because of its open structure
- because of the open structure it can be destroyed with a bit of water and frost.
In road use, it used on stretches of road where there is no hard braking. At traffic lights for instance, the road surface changes again into a normal closed surface.
