CBS here in America has the absolute worst coverage for a F1 race that I have ever seen. Ralph Shaheen and Derek Daly are our two announcers. While I have nothing against Daly, Ralph might be one of the poorest announcers I have ever heard. The footage shown was entirely Schumi and Alonso (I know that it was rightfully so for the last 20 laps with some wonderful battles at front). I had no idea who or why any cars left the race. No explination for yellows or anything. Pretty bad in general.

I love Speed TV's crew, they are wonderful. Keep those guys coming and I'll keep getting up at 5 in the morning to watch them...


Be happy across the pond that you (probably) have a wonderful anouncing team (s). Sheesh....

I watched it too, they really need that technical director guy from audi as they did before, and I was also wondering what happen to the other cars too during the race. I really like the rock music with the crazy scenes of previous races. But pretty bad coverage, worst then Speed Tv, but ITV has the best coverage bar none, Speed commentators always go crazy saying something happen which it never does.

I followed the race on ITV and wasn't very impressed either, however the ITV F1 crew isn't responsible for what we see during the race, it's Italian coverage (I believe).

Most of the views were focused on MS and FA... no Fisichella or any McLaren drivers at all. There was no on-board cameras or interactive features that show drivers throttle, brakes, TC, etc.

Under normal circumstances it's a lot better.
The trouble with the rat-race is that even if you win, you're still a rat.

i agree also they seemed to have verry long comercails at the worst possible times

On The CBS one, they showed alot of those interactive features, and close ups too, isn't it the host network of the country that takes over duties of the camera and what the viewers see?

That was the one saving grace. Decent grunge rock from the early 90's. Especially since I heard two of my favorite bands: Smashing Pumpkins, and Pearl Jam.


I personally love Speed's coverage. Here in the states it just dosn't seem like a Formula race without them.

We had the same coverage as you but better comentry.

Why was there a yellow flag about half way through at Piratella?

Yes, it was italian realisation. So everywhere in the world we had the same coverage (appart for commentators of course), and as I said in another topic, we had no explainations for yellows in France and Principessa told it was the same in Belgium, so if in some countries they had comments, they are lucky. I hope the Germans will do a better job in two weeks.

Formula 1 engineers every race telecast I believe, so the latter half being all Schumi/Alonso was out of CBS's control, just as it would've been if Speed was covering the race.

However, being tape-delayed, there was no need to miss any of the action during the race. So why during a commercial did CBS allow laps to be missed as if it were live? Couldn't we have just as easily picked up right where we left off? It was incredibly annoying to miss two laps every single time they went to a commercial break; which, by the way, seemed much more frequent with CBS.

I too had no problem listening to Daly as "color" man, but whoever was the lead has got to go. I can't stand the thought of having to listen to his dumb ass for another three of four races. I mean, how "white" can one man be?

I understand that the only person sending video was Italian media, but that dosn't mean that we even get to see that coverage. I think CBS butchered the coverage and then minced the leftovers with their drivel they call comentary.


I agree lets hope the German's do a better job.

CBS was so bad that I cannot make a personal comment about the race becasue, even though I watched the coverage flag to flag, I have no idea what happened during the race.

DC's diveshaft problem was the reason for the yellow at Pireatella (sp?)

Edit: beaten to the punch about the yellow.

They never showed what happen to Klien or Coulthard during the race, and they were really quick with albers crash, but the one thing that was good, is that they had the mini pop up screen and showed the interview of albers after the accident in video form instead of the usual radio chatter with no video.

After watching there speed interview before the race, it just made me hate the guy even more, he seems so cocky and stupid IMO.

I agree with you on the interview with Scott Speed. The more I hear from him the more I cannot stand him. What a pompous twit.



Just to clear something up- in the earlier post when I was sepaking of "Speed" I was talking about a TV channel named Speed TV not the STR driver.
All I know is I don't know much....

The flag was before DC. It lasted about 2 laps before Alonso's pit stop. The commentators mentioned it but didn't give a reason. Piratella (thats the spelling I've got here) is the 3rd gear left turn at the brow of the hill after Tosa. Turn 6 I think.

Why was Speed saying that if you give other racers advantage or let them take advantage of you then they will keep on doing it, I dont see how other drivers take advantage of other drivers, it just made no sense.

He is trying to show that he is a hardman. It is going back to the incident last meeting, making out that he was the victim.

Also he is trying to prove he is good by what he says when the only way too really tell is on track.
Make no mistake, I like a rebel but there is a line which the big boys don't cross and speed is miles over it.
