2 race engine rule.

Post

i was thinking... now days with a 2 engine rule fridays there is hardly any running. this is bad for fans visiting the track.. my question is.. why dont they allow teams to bring their engines that has already run 2 races and use it for friday testing. they can then put the fresh one in on saturday morning

I think you made a good point there.

Well, the F1 rules now change more then ever, and I think it will so until FIA and others are satisifed. Try talking to Mosley

this is an interesting idea. But I think if they can do twenty lap or more after 2 GP with an engine, it would just mean they have been too shy with the margin.

You know the famous quotes of Ferdinand Porsche:
"The perfect race car crosses the finish line in first place and then falls to pieces."
and Colin chapman:
"Any race car wich holds together for a whole race is too heavy"

This is representative of the spirit of racing. And if the fact your engine hold together in this further test would prove you were wrong, the other way (having your engine blow up in front of spectators) would be bad publicy, don't you think?

yeah but when they had new engines for every race it was so much fun coz you couldnt predict it, but now you can predict who will be conservative and who wont.

Friday testing is too short and too important so that teams would play with engines whose mileage has expired. It would require new exhaust, new sparkplugs, new clutch, new oil, injection adjustment for specific track as well as engine mapping...

Also, it would take a lot of time to make a change from such engine to engine that would be used for qualifying and race leaving too little time for setup tuning. Just think of it: - pull engine down of the chassis, attach old one for Friday practice than pull down that one again and than attach the one that will be used for quali and race...
