F1 Steering Geometry

Post

Hi All!
I am an fossilised engineer from the so called golden age of motor sport, (pre-carbon and pre ground effect) living in Australia. During the telecast of the recent Azerbaijan GP I saw, and confirmed, fore and aft movement of the upper and lower wishbones during tyre warming zig zagging from the on board cameras of two cars. I am assuming that this is some kind of geometric technique that has escaped me and I am hoping someone can enlighten me. I confirmed the movement from a video recording of the sighting lap before the start and again during one of the safety car periods.
Note: By "Fore and aft" I mean rather than "up an down".

You are just seeing suspension roll from the body fixed camera. The suspension arms will have some longitudinal movement due to the anti effects of the suspension.
