This has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen

Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

She is sadly American and wants to blame others for her trouble. And get rich while at it.

She clearly is going to miss out on all the future earnings that her husband would have made if they were still married together and had no pre-nup and he didn't die, but just to show you that some lawyers out there and people are trying to get the quick buck.

Well, even tho this is a much harsher story, it reminds me of this one:

The lady that sued McDonald's for around 3 million dollars just because she spilled hot coffee on her lap Now everybody has to have "caution: cup is hot" on the damn coffee cup.

As I say, only in America.

I hate with a passion people who look for the easy money.

Especially when its over someones misfortune (and don't start on the "emotional stress" or I'll get really pissed off)

It's not only America, here the news are filled of thoses stories, the most often it's about surgeons being sued when someone's operation failed! Some times ago there was a failure in a telepheric which lead to ~80 people crashing to death, and someone has to go in prison (it was a mechanical failure!). Recently I saw in the news someone attempting a trial against some tobbaco industry because he had lung cancer! And the prime minister have been forced to give his resignation because there was a heatwave this year  . I would write a full novel if I were to write all those stories down. It seems to be a common problem of modern occidentals, that someone has to pay for everything, even when it's about natural disasters...

The idea that someone is to blame in every accident is wrong - sometimes people choose to take risks, sometimes accidents happen..........we should be able to be idiots if we want to. It's part of the human makeup and human experience.

In this case, probably quite reasonable to go after the driver's estate. However, the trackday organisers and the car manufacturer?? Can't see it myself.........

What happens when insurance costs rise so high that nobody can afford to drive a car, run a race track, give cycling lessons, look after children, teach, work, try and save someone's life if you are a doctor.............it's already close to madness and will get worse.

I have to say, it's the American blame culture and the fact that potential damages seem to be unlimited in the land of the free; which ironically will shackle people in future.

Instead of blame - what's wrong with a system that tries to establish truth, then meter out compensation accordingly. In this case, the passenger's choice was to sit beside someone doing a very risky activity - he has to be attributed some responsibility in creating a widow.

On another rant, it's not too far removed: those people that scam insurance companies - "the big fat corporation pays out" - NOPE, we pay through our premiums. Probably the same people that complain about premiums do the scamming.............

Personal liability lawyers have maimed many industries. Just look at the light aircaft industry before the 70's. Names like Piper, Cessna, and many more were selling hundreds of two and four place light aircraft. But once the lawyers got involved, they pretty well folded up shop, and the numbers have never been the same.

Some may have heard of a famous case reacently.

Someone lost their finger at work. Awww. Compensation etc and they got to keep their severed finger (in a jar)

His mates 'borrowed' it and took it to the local super market where they picked a product and claimed to have found the fingure in it!

They were found out and sent to jail (except the guy without a finger although he must have had a part to play) but of course the company lost millions and folded. True story of people taking advantage of this 'where there's a blame theres a gain' culture.

It was in the states and the lady was around the California region and she put the finger in her salad at wendy's. She tried to sue Wendy's but she got caught for it.

Worst example - poor people sending their kids to spend some time with Michael Jackson even though they've heard before that he was accused of pedophilia and than putting him on trial to get money out of it. If I was judge I'd put such parents in prison before sentencing anyone else

You and I see eye to eye on that one manchild. Of course typical easily convinced idiots at school say 'hehe, Jacko's a pero, hehe.' but I don't agree. To me it was clearly a money making scheme by the parents taking advantage of Jackson's questionable habit of inviting children over for the weekend. Sorry to bring that up. Please don't start a debate about that. (I am not a Jackson fanatic, but I think he was set up.)
