Ferrari - Mercedes alliance.

Post

Are we comfortable with this openly stated alliance in F1?

I mean, the two largest teams on the grid being able to bend events to their benefit.

It seems that it is a bit abusive in terms of balance of power.

Thoughts?

Just another era. Every f1 superpower falls at some point in time so I am comfortable with this alliance.

I seem to have missed something: how does the alliance work? Is it official?

Just an agreement between the manufacturers. Both have been quoted, referring to it as "brotherly love" off track.

When any agreement between teams influences the governance of the sport, it is inherently uncompetitive, as they simply apply their might to make it that only one of them can win a championship, excluding the other participants due to the ability to block changes that would level the field.

That is not what was reported.

And this is just your personal opinion!

It's a fact that no sport should be governed in any way by the teams that participate.

That's why any break away is guaranteed to fail.

Again, that's your opinion.

For example, the MLB is run this way, and works perfectly fine in my opinion.

I'm beginning to question if you understand the difference between a fact and an opinion.

MLB luxury tax on salary cap is a self balancing system.

You don't see the Yankees and the Dodgers colluding on votes that guarantee they they can retain a competitive spending advantage.

If it ever was proven that Merc gave Ferrari engine design guidance to ensure that enough competitor was present to prevent an outright ban on Merc tech, that would be obscenely unbalanced, and a guarantee only a works car from one of these teams could compete regularly for wins.

The luxury tax is nothing more than a PR distraction. The Penalty isn't nearly high enough imo to help the low budget teams.

That's because their are 28 other teams, not 8 like in F1. Not to mention every team is equal when it comes to votes, unlike in F1 where Ferrari has special veto privileges.

ItΒ΄s also interesting watching Sergio bringing in Alfa Romeo and talking about Maserati for HAAS.
Easy way to secure more leverage in the sport.
I believe Mercedes also have talked about securing some type of B-team in Formula 1. Having teams run your engines does help a bit but its not the same as owning another team.

When 2 of the 4 existing PU manufacturers (and the most competitive 2 at that) are colluding over what direction the new PU rules should take, people are bound to get suspicious.

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

if both of them were shouting for V8/V10 screamers, 80's tyres and all the active tech/TC/ABS there wouldnt be any problem with this "alliance"
