Top 10 F1 Cars of All-Time

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Top 10 F1 Cars of All-Time

Post

Hi All,

I have composed an all-time top 10 list of F1 cars. Plenty of technical information I have collated with great insights into the tech that made them successful. Although there will be plenty of disagreement I hope you enjoy...

Nice list!

Somehow many alway forget the MP4/2, by numbers maybe the most successful car in F1 history (3 drivers and 2 constructor championships)

I really enjoyed the list and i totally agree with most of it(even if i think there is big mistake about the BMW engine that was not 23 kg heavier than Ferraris engine, it was actually even lighter - 96 kg Ferrari, 90 kg BMW). I think the F2002 deserves the Nr. 1, as it actually was this car that started "modern" F1 design. Especially the british F1 media tend to overlook that it was not the MP4/18 that introduced "extreme packaging" but the F2002. It was also the F2002 that started the trend to make the sidepods and the rear as small as possible and the use of vortices to improve aerodynamics. Its sucessor the F2003 GA started the trend of the undercut of the sidepods and other aero-features widely used untill today. So the F2002 deserves to be the Nr. 1 as it was not only one of the most sucessfull F1 cars ever, but the car that really started "modern F1"-design and engineering.

MP4/2 and F2004 should be on the list, possibly even the McLaren M23. The MP4/2 is the only car to win 3 consecutive championships, and the F2004 is simply the greatest of all time. No other car forced the FIA to farcically rig the following season to make sure the team would have no chance of being competitive, and no other car has set records that have stood for so long.

I strongly agree about the F2004. You can also add the W11 : amazing livery, amazing cornering speed and a few track record.
