The trouble with the rat-race is that even if you win, you're still a rat.

Simple. They always go to the same one. When added together and subtracted. So as you go down and add them they make a smaller number, so when you subtract, it cancels out by making a bigger difference.

Well, there is a funny way to impress your class by doing some mind reading. It goes like this:

First, you do the trick Tp described. For example, take your age, multiply it by 2, sum 18, divide by 2, substract your age (or something as complicated as you wish). Your audience ends with the number 9 in their heads.

Now you tell them to alphabetize the result: if they got a 1, the should think of an animal that starts with A, if they got a 2, an animal whose name starts with B, etcetera.

As the audience ended with a 9, they have to think of an animal whose name starts with an "I".

Then you ask them to substract 5 (they should end with a 4) and ask them again to think of a country whose name starts with this letter (the fourth letter of the alphabet): they have to think of a country whose name starts with a "D".

Then, finally, you ask them to think of a colour for the animal.

Then you make a pause and tell them: all you are thinking about the "Green Iguanas from Denmark". It never fails...

I have seen David Blaine doing something equally impressive: he asks you to think of a card, any card. Then he tells you the card. A lot of guys think about the Ace or Jack of Spades. A lot of girls think automatically of the Queen of Hearts.

Do you really think I'm that stupid?

I've even tried doing choosing the same number and doing the math 3 or 4 times...and it keeps on showing me 2 diferent images!

It's my job to think everyone is stupid, sorry.

besides you must be doing something wrong for it not to work, whatever number you add the answer is always divisible by 9, therefore all the symbols on the 9 times table are the same so it will always come up with the right symbol, look again, see?

answers=
99-(9+9)=81, it works with all the 90s
81-(8+3)=72, it works with all the 80s
72-(7+5)=63, it works with all the 70s
63-(6+1)=54, it works with all the 60s
54-(5+8 )=45, it works with all the 50s
45-(4+3)=36, it works with all the 40s
36-(3+6)=27, it works with all the 30s
27-(2+7)=18, it works with all the 20s
18-(1+8 )=9, it works with all the 10s
etc.

We know Monstrobolaxa is one of the sharpest around. Thanks again, anyway, Tom. Good explanation.

too add to Tom's discovery, The flash program always changes the symbol for all the numbers therefore increasing the illusion and confusion =p

It worked good until I choose: 00
00- 0+0 = 0
But there is a other symbol on 0 than on 9, 18, 27...

I supose 00 does not count as a 2 digit number.
